Hey there. I recently started up eldar (althought I have played marines for the past 3 years and daemonhunters for 2.) I'm curious. I have built an Alaitoc list for 1500 points and was wondering what is a better investment? 2 full D cannon batteries and some dark reapers or 3 wraithlords with brightlances?
Oh and on a side note, I don't care if anyone calls me cheese, it goes in one ear and out the other, personally, if its in the game I don't mind if you use it.
The Eldar are about finese. Having the exact weapon to do the exact job you need. 3x Wraithlords is like having a big club with a nail in it. It might get the job done, but there are much more classy (read: Eldar) ways to do it.
If you need a counter assault unit, an avatar will cover that just as well as a wraithlord. Try a Falcon, a Wraithlord, and an Avatar (and if you feel a weird obsessive need, a D-Cannon).
Everything I have told you, even this, is a lie.
Simply put, you won't go wrong with Wraithlords...can't say the same for D-cannons. So either go Wraithlords and have a great chance of success...or try your luck with a trickier unit. I personally would go with 2 Wraithlords and a Falcon for my heavy. It works well.
Depends on your playing style, if your playing defensivly then I would say that you should go with the d-cannons and the dark reapers. Now on the other hand if you ar playing offencivly and are pushing towards the enemy the wraithlords can be a great asset as they can absorb the fire and draw attention away from your striking offencive units, thats what resilient units are for anyway.
I would go with option one, being able to pin the enemy with d-cannons then blowing them to bits with reapers is very nice.
Both are very good and WL will be cheaper IRL Cash than 3 Dcannons. Also with the new catelogue you can special order Epic titans to use as WLs ^_^
If your going for those two types of HS I'd personally get 3 Heavy Plats of Dcannons and 2 WLs... I think that would be fun!
I'd say go with 2 Wraithlords with Bright lances and one D-cannon. Wraithlords are great counter-chargers, and D-cannons threat most units who get too close. Stay away from reapers though...
Warhammer Fantasy: Warriors of Chaos, High Elves
Warhammer 40k: Eldar, Space Marines, Orks
From an Eldar enemy (I play SM, Necron, and Tyranids) I would choose the Wraithlord option. Personally I would go with 2 Wraithlords and a unit of Reapers. Wraithlords are really tough to take down, especially two of them and Reapers wipe out marines (even if they are easier to kill themselves).
The 2 Wraithlord and Falcon combo is a great choice also.
I do not criticize. I do not offend. All I offer is my opinion which means only as much as you make it.
With alaitoc i would stay away from the reapers. There is very little need for them when you have that many rangers. Having 3 wraithlords really would be overkill, but just 1 would be useful in discouraging assaults (which your rangers do not want to be in) D-cannons would work well as you will probably be fielding a shooty army and your opponent will be forced to come to you, thus reducing the disadvantage of the short range. They can also be used to stop an opponent from using certain sections of the board (who really wants to be hit by fire from those guns?)However again you will just be wanting the one unit. If you really want a third heavy support try a falcon with holofield (or CTM if you don't have other vehicles as the falcon will be blown to bits if the enemy can focus their attention on it).
Everyone makes mistakes. mine was to leave her head in the fridge.
no one like to play against 3 wraithlords, personally i'd go for 2 wraithlords and a d-cannon battery. the d-cannons will blow then away followed by an assault by 2 wraithlords. nothing can get through that (very handy to cover rangers!)
