So my only real opponents right now are my friends who play Death Wing and Grey Knights.
We play around 750-1250 pts wise and my army is usually:
Winged Hive Tyrant
3 X CC warriors
2 squads of spinegaunts
2 squads of hormagaunts
genestealers or ravener
BroodLord and squad or Carnifex
maybe a zoanthrope if i have room
My Deathwing friend usually has 2 squads of termies and a dreadnaught or 2, with rocket launchers and/or assault cannons, and the DK usually has 2 squads of grey knights, 1 squad termies with Grandmaster, and then storm troopers or orbital bombardment or something.
Anyways, i think the past 4-5 games weve played ive won with over half my army still intact. We play 4X6 tables setting up on length wise and by turn 3 i usually have most if not all my army in cc.
Is it because nids just got worked over that theyre so good? It seems my friends just simply lack enough longrange firepower to take anything out and then with so many rending claws i get him to roll enough invulnerable saves and they all fall.
Im asking is should nids be playing elite armies, or what has given you trouble from these two armies in the past? I just want them to get better because it gets old to dominate on the few occasions we all play.
Depends on the Elites. Dark Eldar Wych Cults can be quite a handful for Tyranids. Plenty of Devourers would work, but in any case: things might quickly go downhill if alot of Wyches make it into combat. They're cheap and Rending Claws do nothing against them and their invulnerable dodge save. A Genestealers' high weaponskill is halved and they don't get their usual benefit of striking first. Fortunately, my regular opponent doesn't own that many Wyches. . .
Why do the survivors remain anonymous -- as if cursed -- while the dead are revered? Why do we cling to what we lose while we ignore what we still hold?
Name none of the fallen, for they stood in our place, and stand there still in each moment of our lives.

I think the problem your friends are having is that they are bringing too many terminators to the table. Terminators are great, but not against power weapon/rending armies, and since most Nid players load up on monsterious creatuers or rending claws their terminators fall pretty quickly.
If they would unload terminators for plasma and heavy bolter troops they would be do much better because monsterous creatures die to plasma, and rending creatures die to heavy bolters. If the Deathwing brought speeders, and the daemonhunters brought chimeras with plasma stormies you could be in for some hurting...The big problem they have is that their most expensive units don't fight your units well...GK termies still go last and are weaker than normal termies and Deathwing Termies are too expensive when you are fighting a list of guys that can ignore your armor save on a 6 to hit.
Well, for one thing, deathwing is an exteamily hard army to play. He can only field 46 models in 1500 game, and thats with no HQ or wargear of any kind. Id suggest you play games of at least 1500, deathwing need larger games. Also, tell him to read the deathwing tactical in the space marine army section, nids shouldnt be to much trouble for the finest company in all the imperium.
Also I think the dreadnaught might find heavy flamers and its usual cc weapon alot more useful than a missile launcher. It just doesn't work with an assualt cannon
i think its just because in general deathwing and gk aren't very competetive compared to some of the new stuff out there, such as the new revamped nids. both are very troop light armies, only able to bring a small force to the table. every single power weapon hit is going to hurt them bad.
nids aren't necessarily too good, its just that deathwing and gk are very hard to play effectively.
i have a similar problem, we have
necrons (use to play DE but sold em)
Black templar w/ GK allies
Sisters of battle
Chaos undivided leaning towards khorne
the new kid at school has just started Eldar
i get the same cries of cheese, i usually use a walking tyrant with gaurds, spines, horms, 6-24 stealers, 1-2 dakka-fecci, and some lictors at 1500-2000 points, i used to take numberless instead of hormies, but i stoped using them when the cheese criers started flowing, any way,
vehicle are always trouble 4 nids, speeders, dreads, landraiders, specially the crusader, could cause problems, does the GK use incinerators, they are flamers with very good AP, they penertrate just about everything in the nids army, my friend always uses them,
i love fighting termies, they is easy points for the brood lord or tyrant, so definantly drop them in favor of some vehicles
Apparently all teams are meant to be equal, but I doubt this.
PS. what are cheese criers?
Cheese as a phrase has been murdered in my neighbour hood.

Cheese means broken, as in "uber powerful and you cannot win Muahahahahha!!!!" type broken.
As for your friends, the Deathwing could try some more dreds and maybe an LR or Crusader. And lots of assault cannons. And the GK could try some cheap, mass of inducted guard with tons of plasma and melt weapons. Plus then there would be Setinals, and those could hold up any sort of guant (without s4) forever and a day. Plus they can be equipped with flamers, autocannons( very good against nids) and lascannons. And thats not to mention the potential Leman Russ tanks to add to the army....
