So I already have 1 fex, ES, BS + VC.
I bought a second and I want to stick with my original gameplan of equipping my MC's as fire support. But I also want to make this Fex cheap.
Here was the idea I came up with.
I don't have codex handy, so I don't know the points cost, but I think it's around 115.
Anyways, my idea was to make this guy crush infantry, and I would plan to use him to hold ground in take & hold missions and the like..
At 12" range, this gives him:
1x TL S7 blast
4x TL S6 living ammo
2x TL S6
I'd really appreciate some criticism on this build, also, any cheap upgrades that can help his survivability, or melee abilities (thinking tail scythe at the moment) that would help him accomplish his job of crushing infantry.
It is more than 115 pts. Actualy I think that make around 123 pts. To reap apart infantry with a fex that cost not too much for fielding it into an elite as shock troop I would recommand a Dakkafex (TL-devourer 2x and enhanced senses for a total of 113 pts).
It should do a great job.
Anyway, for your actual build, it's not so bad, but for a few points less than the broadside one you already hav, I would rather go with a similar of that one since it's an heavy support.
Tyranid 2500 pts
Space marine 750 pts
Scarp that idea and turn it into a devilfex, it only costs 113 pts and it equipped with enhanced senses and 2 pair of TL-devourers, it's cheap pumps out a lot of shots, it can also be taken as an elite fex in larger games.
One of the best fex lay-outs for it's points.

I already use a Hive Tyrant w/ enhanced senses, 2x tl devourers and tyrant gaurd. Think it would be effective to use both together?
those 2 will certainly casue a lot of wounds on whatever they fire on, I have a winged hive tyrant with dual devourers, if it joins in with my devilfex they really do damage to large units and they even give SM something to swallow, having 20 shots from only 2 models coming at ya ain't pretty.
thanks for the advice. I think i'll drop him to the 113 pt elite fex to give me better choices with deployment.
I have been getting a lot of mileage from a carnifex with the following:
(He also has some CC biomorphs, but they do not come into play often).
This guy lays down devastating fire. He is deadly against open-topped vehicles and threatening to anything AV12, but he really shines at killing infantry. In two recent games he did the following:
Against Dark Eldar (game over on turn 4):
Assisted in wiping out a warrior squad with dark lances that were taking cover in trees
Wiped out a warrior squad all by himeself.
Against Tau (game over on turn 5):
Killed a devilfish
Killed the Shas'o and 1 crisis suit (Str 8 = splat!)
Killed a few gun drones and fire warriors, including causing enough wounds to cause a unit of fire warriors to break and run.
My last game, against Death Guard, he did not do so well. Only killed something like 3 Marines before becoming a very dead carnifex. However, do you know why that was? My opponent concentrated fire on this carnifex! He ignored a gunfex, a walking tyrant with guard, and another carnifex with a venom cannon and crushing claws to shoot at this carnifex, because it does so much damage.
And, if you do not take the CC morphs, he is a bargain.
Only Carnifes I ever use are these two beasties...
-2x Twin Linked Devourers
(Drop the Bonded Exoskeleton to make him an Elite)
These two always seem to make their points back.
Katalyst, why do you prefer bonded exoskeleton to reinforced chitin?
I dont know about Katalyst, but I prefer the exoskeleton because it means I can ignore lasguns, most Ork CC attacks and because Toughness is such an important stat, being harder to wound makes a lot of difference.
As a note, I usually combine it with Chitin, the combination is only 10pts more expensive than Extended Carapace and I think its far better. Most anti carnifex weapons can ignore your Sv anyway, but a lot of them are influenced by higher T and and extra W effects all weapons.
