Roughly How many points do you getin the battilion box set and what would you hace to add to make a legal army
I'm thinking of starting 40k and I heard "Orkes is da Best" and "Orkes is neva beat"
well, it would probably be around 400 points with the bikers, trukk and buggy + boyz.
a legal list from that box would be 6 trukkers + trukk, buggy, 5 bikers and 10 slugga/shoota boyz. this would include some big shootas converted from shoota parts, but wouldn't include nobs. but those squads would still be quite small, so i'd suggest that you'd get another box of boyz, a warboss and maybe some grots made from FB goblins. grots are great for shielding your boyz and equipping that slaver with a rokkit or power klaw makes a nasty hidden surprise sometimes. they also give you some mass.
after that a looted vehicle is quite common, maybe some kans or a dread and some more boyz, maybe shoota boys to accompany those slugga boyz.
hope this helps.
P.S, don't be discouraged by the orks if you don't have succes with them. they are quite tricky to use well and can feel quite out-dated. we still have some propa punch in our army.

Really, I dont think the box set is very good if you are just starting orks: It gives you five bikes you dont want, a trukk you dont have enough boyz to use and no warboss. A better way to start IMO would be 2 boxes of boyz and a warboss, then some special weapons boyz and build up from there- alternatively, you could buy a third box of boyz, use them to convert your own special weapons boyz and nobs and have more left over for trukk boyz or something. (Twenty is a good mob size for orks, which would give you 8 left over.)
Once you'd got 40 boyz and a warboss, that would be a force of about 500 points.
Of course, I am obliged to point out that you can get everythign cheaper on EEEEEBAY! which lets you buy more- grots are good with that starting force, and then some nobs before probably going on to some vehicles like a trukk.
If you have stuff to trade i've found that Looted vehicles and Ork stuff come nice and cheap in our trading section. i've made quite a few trades for useful stuff lately on here and other sits. Always remember a landraider that some painted poorly and wants to get rid of easily becomes a battle wagon and a rhino easily becomes a wartrukk... and who doesn't want a looted baslisk or leman russ
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
Would 2 Boxes of Boyz, A Warboss and 2 sets of Burna Boyz and 2 Sets of Eavy Weapons Boyz make about 500pts?

TJK, if you are just stating 40k then might I suggest space marines, yes,yes everyone starts with space marines but, the battleforce boxset + a commander model can easily get you 400-500 points and are fairly easy to use (I assume you are unfamiliar with the 40k rules).
After that you can go to orks to make da biggest, da baddest, da shootiest WWAAAAGGHH!! in da ooniverse!
the things thats put me off SM is that evryone has them,Originally Posted by The_Outsider
The armies I might consider though are Orks, Necron and possibly Tau
But Orks are main idea though because I'm a big Orc player in Fanatasy
The battleforce is a good set IF you want to play Evil sunz or Speedfreaks, if you want a different to play then get yourself 2 boxes of orks and a warboss, also get the WD that contains the Klan special rules and deceide if you want a normal ork list according to the codex or one of the klanz and then get more stuff.
A good elite choice are skarboyz, good fast attack are usually trukkboyz and a looted tank is always a well spent heavy support.
Ghazgukhull makes an awesome warboss model as when he is kitted out he is very nasty, Plus when get to large enough points you can use him as Ghazgukhull.
well, if you can convert some nobs then it would be about 500 points roughly, considering you'd use slugga boyz and the boss would be about 100 points.Originally Posted by TJK
btw, it's not wise to mix "heavy" weapons in squads. if you're going to give the squad big shootas then only give big shootas. oh, and big shootas are very easy to convert from the basic plastic set and rokkits are also quite manageable on the conversion side, so if you're going to buy metal special weapons burna models are the only real reason imho for them.
