Hey, I just started Tyranids after playing Guardsmen for about two years. I traded with my friend to get about 45 Gaunts, three Carnifexs, and about six Warriors. I was going to fight with my Tyranid army kind of like my Imperial Guard, loads of cheap troops with some tanks, now Carnifex. As a Guardsmen player I field troops that are pretty cheap so besides giving the guants just Spinefists and charging them up the table. The Without Number, is that usful in an army of Guants or does it make them to many pts? The three Carnifexs I will keep pretty cheap and hopefully they can attarct fire
Most people think without number is a waste of pionts because once the entire brood is destroyed they have to make it all the way across the board again.
Also r emember that you can use carnifexes that are LESS than 115 points as elites in games of 1500 or more.
The more gaunts you have, the more synapse you'll want to bring so make sure you have plenty of warriors.
Next you should probably get a hive tyrant. Genestealers are kind of expensive but they are really good in CC.
I have seen the Death Company: wild-eyed berserkers, who tear their enemys limb from limb, crush skulls with a single blow, snap spines and rip out organs. The Blood Angels are indeed ancient and terrible and only the foolish do not fear them.
Synapse is the only real thing to worry about. Remember, nids are almost the exact opposite of Guard in every way except their points. Even spinegaunts typically only get one round of shooting in before they're in CC. If you're going to hold them back to shoot you're looking at nids all wrong.
Without number only gives your opponent more VP IMO. As said earlier they have to run from your deployment zone and most likely won't do much. In certain missions it's a great ability but it's useless in most.
I do not criticize. I do not offend. All I offer is my opinion which means only as much as you make it.
