when is enough really enough with ulthwe'

hey this is primarily a question about guardians how many squads does a ulthwe' army really need and when is it too much. Also there in a ulthwe' army so their my backbone not a meatsheild and thus need to be effective and distracting...:shifty:

I like 2 big squads with starcannons + warlock with conceal as any more and you loose you’re high BS.
With 16-20 man squads that’s a massive amount of firepower they would be crazy to not shoot them, don't forget you can move and shoot with your support platforms.

I agree with roo. I use two units of 17 (including the warlock/platform) and put them in a wedge formation with the seer council acting as the "point" behind them.

    Black storm squads?

Anyone ever use the maxed out storm squad, with a Warlock with Enhance and the Seer Council close enough to toss Fortune on them? I realize that they're still bolter fodder and that even with WS and I 5, they won't really kill much other than scum, but they seem like they might be another unit(like the Seer Council) that could tie up folks for quite a while.

As a base, I usually use 2 Black Guardian squads of 9+2crewmen+Warlock and a bright lance or EML platform. Remember that Guardians are specialized units like most other Eldar, and should be used as such. I've found that for non-black Guardian squads 15+Warlock w. Conceal works fine for taking out hordes, or simply adding bulk.
Storm squads can be useful as well, but foot sloggers you intend to move around should never go without conceal. A squad of 20 Storm Guardians + Warlock w. Conceal and Witchblade can be very intimidating on the battlefield. And let's not forget the useful 5-Stormie squad with two flamers riding in a Falcon.

Generally, if you don't use a transport or a Wraithgate (USF) or plan to keep your Guardians stationary they should always have conceal, with only a few exceptions depending on the army you face.

yeah at the moment i have trouble with people yelling cheese when i put down 1 unit of 20 defenders, 2 units of 16 black defenders, 1 squad of 9 stormers with 2 fusion and warlock with wb and enhance in wave serpent and 1 squad of 9 stormers with 2 flamers and a warlock with wb and destructor in wave serpent.

p.s. straconnons on everything except the actual strormers

Then proxy three Wraithlords and an Avatar and let them know the true meaning of Cheese.

I've difficulties imagining a player complaining about a guardian-heavy army for any other reason than being a bad enough player not being able to counter it.

But then, if he plays Orks...

Oh. Well. How many points are that, usually? I usually have about... 6 on my Walkers, 1 on my falcon and 1 in a guardian squad. But that is over 1500 pts, if I play 2000 I might use a wave serpent with Star cannon as well. It all depends on the points limit. But if they play marines it can be hell, especially if you use a lot of foot sloggers.
