Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi. New to nids, don't have book. I'm using early christmas money - $160 american - to buy nids. First buy is going to be book, and $80+ amount of stuff. All my 40k buddies play CSM or SM, and I have two Blood Angels freinds. I like CC from my old days in the SM group, but i didn't want to do a Super Elite army, but i wish to know what boxes i should blind buy against SM. I was thinking just like a HT box and a couple of gaunt boxes for scything talons. I'm just a noob on this, so if you coud direct me to what i should get, it would be helpful.
Thanks in Advance.
Most bang for your buck would be the battle force. But to stay in budget, and get a playable army fast, buy a box of warriors, a box of gaunts, and a box of genestealers. Dont know if that stays under $80 because I didnt take the 2seconds to do math, but warriors will be a good place to start for HQ.
My blind buys: codex, tyrant and battleforce. Then is up to you.
Generally speaking, the bigger the box, the more money you save. The army deal is quite cheaper than buying every nid separately. But not everyone is willing/capable of churning out >200$ at once...
A battleforce costs exactly the same than a box of warriors+ a box of gaunts + a box of genestealers... and the battleforce includes all those and a carnifex. It's a great deal for starters.
Grow up from there following your personal tastes... a tyrant is always sweet for HQ, either a walking one with big guns or a flying one with dual Scything talons or dual devourers (whatever you prefer, their effectivity also depends on your style of playing)
Then you would need to think more about where you want your army to go, godzilla style, swarmy, a mix...
1 extra box of gaunts.
This will provide with a solid base to work on, it will also provide you with some good numbers.
If you want to tackle your buddies in cc get yourself a broodlord and more stealers, they are great for that job.
Okay. I'll make the order as soon as possible. For my paint scheme, i'm going for getting the Green spray paint, and some scorpion green, and drybrush over desert yellow. Or, i was thinking of just spraying black, and putting over liche purple on the fleshier pards, then glossing the hell out of the black.
First thing: battle force (assuming you already got the codex)
Second thing: A box of gaunts
Third thing: Hive tyrant or the broodlord
That alone is around 1000 points I think.
Your army wil then include:
Hive tyrant, warriors, 2x 16 gaunts of your choice, 8 genestealers, 1 carnifex.
On second thought it isn't 1000 points. Get another box of gaunts, another box of genestealers, and you'll be good. If you don't like too many gaunts (painting the same thing can be a bit boring) get 2 more carnifexes and equip them as dakka fexes or just buy rare earth magnets so you can switch between everymatch. Some people (including me) like to get some lictors: 1-3 should serve, (their models are just so cool!). But some like the zoanthorpe or the ravener for synapse, heavy fire, nice save and hard hitting power respectively. It's basically your choice afterwards. Almost no one goes the path of biovores.
By the way, when you buy your hive tyrant, I would recommend buying some dragon wings to go with it. You might also have to use some green stuff. Even if you don't want a flapping tyrant, you might change your mind, and it would be a waste of energy, time and money to go to the shop and buy one. (even worse for me: order?) Plus, the majority enjoy a beast ripping through the ranks of marines, but some still like the power of the ranged tyrant with tyrant guard (which are really tough and a must if your getting a ranged tyrant) due to the stupid hidden power fist almost every marine has *groans*
I've done the battleforce, tyrant and box of gaunts thing which has been a great start for me. I have found however, playing in a 1000pt game that there is a significant lack of synapse with only 4 models trying to cover most of the army. My next buy might be another battleforce, as i am planning on getting all of those models anyway, or some more warriors/raveners/stealers. Anyway, i would definitely recommend the battleforce and of course the codex as a start, giving you a small but playable army.
Yep. Battlebox looks good. When it says hormagaunts ant termagaunts, it means just plain gaunts, right? Because i want an all CC army.

You get 8 hormagaunts and 8 plain gaunts, which you can equip with shooty guns, like spinefists, devourers etc. SO unfortunatley you cannot make them all cc by what's supplies in the box. I too was going to make an all cc list, until i found out how useful spingaunts are. At pts a piece they wither die (which is good as a distraction) or do something that get their points back. ANyway, the choice is up to u.
With our new codex the might of the termagaunt has also been increased, don't underestimate these little blighters.
