Welcome to Librarium Online!
After the holidays, I have enough money to buy my entire 1850 point Necrons list.
I got for Christmas (modelwise):
1x Box of Warriors
What I need:
2x Boxes of Warriors
8x Flayed One blisters
2x Heavy Destroyers
For a nice sum of $320... leaving me, maybe, with $10 for paint and paintbrushes, which everyone knows will just not do.
So, instead, I'm considering:
8x Flayed One blisters
Summing at: $280
Leaving me nearly $50 for paint and paintbrushes, and other little things.
With the Battleforce, I get 5x Scarab bases that are un-needed, and I can convert two of the three Destroyers into two Heavy Destroyers, leaving me with a spare..
However, this is the entire sum of my wealth right here... so, I'm going to ask.. is it worth it?
I've never owned a complete army before, and I'm afraid that if I don't get them, I won't have another chance to.
Then again, I'm already drawn by other armies, and other things (paintball items coming to mind)..
I think I will go for it, though. Has anyone else bought in this much of a bulk before?
Hmm your kind've in the same situation as me
Im also trying to decide whether to buy 300$ of warhammer 40k and paint stuff or spend it on something else. I was thinking about saving up for a new computer, buying an ipod, or a new paintball gun (currently i have a tippman 98 custom with some improvements; woops kidn've got off subject!)
Anyway im not sure what the best thing to do is. I think im gonna go with the warhammer stuff; although, my situation is different from yours.
Anyway I hope you make the right choice and are happy with what you do..but it's really all up to you. If you think you'll use your paintball supplies more then I'd get that but if you like/play warhammer 40k more then go with that. Also, you already have the start of a necron army so if you didn't get some necron's its kind've a waste of models.
Well good luck! (sry i kind've dragged on)
Yesterday I got a whole 1000 point necron army. Battleforce (present from grandparents), Destroyer Lord, 3 Wraiths, and a tomb spyder. Comes out to 967(ish) points with the upgrades.Originally Posted by Lost Nemesis
If you are worried about spending so much start smaller, 1500 or smaller. That way you still have some money for other things, and you will still have a complete army.
Pure Grey Knights
If I were you, I wouldn't buy it all at once.
Get a battleforce or two, and playtest flayed ones, immortals, and pariahs proxying using warriors. Remember that FOs come in blisters of 2, and that you really need a squad of 8 or more of any of the above to make them worth it.
Proxy as much as you can before going out and buying them- things like immortals and pariahs are damned expensive. You need to see if you like them before commmitting.

I'd go for it. I probably wouldn't buy so many FOs but I consider the battleforces a good deal. If you're going to spend that much in one store then have no qualms about haggling or asking them to throw stuff in for free- glue, brushes, codicies are good for this. GW stores have more lee-way here (mostly because the staff don't own the store). Have fun.
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
I can't really help you make your decision on whether you should buy the models or not because I dont really know what your priorities are. I can, however, recommend what models you should get if you decide thats what you want to do. First off, the heavy destroyers and wraiths are both good choices along with the two boxes of warriors. I would suggest that you not get the flayed ones or the pariahs, however. It is my opinion, as well as many others, that immortals are much better than pariahs, especially if you plan on using them with your lord and a veil of darkness. The thing I dont like about pariahs is that they cost more than immortals and they aren't necrons so they dont get WBB and they dont count towards your phase out total. Go with immortals. Also, instead of getting 8 packs of flayed ones ($80), you could get a monolith ($55) and possibly something else, like another heavy destroyer, or even a destroyer lord to send in with your wraiths(!).
Well, there's no question as to what I'm buying or not, if I buy; I have already made my 1850 point list, and it's there.
So, Flayed Ones and Pariahs both stay. (I recommend you all search for the article on how to use Pariahs effectively, by Gojiratoho.)
Either way, I'll be spending my money; either on Warhammer 40k, which I've started already (obviously); Warhammer Fantasy, which I'd need the rulebook and all; or paintball. There are things I need for paintball that're expensive; but, it's still winter, and I don't play often in winter.
I think I might just go ahead and buy the army. I need to get one started up anyways.
