I just started tau before I heard of the roumours of the new 'dex, so I was wondering what is 'safe' to buy knowing that the rules will change somewhat.
I was planning on buying about 5 Crisis suits, but after looking around a bit I found that they were in for some drastic changes (new guns and hardpoints). I'm getting at least 6 Stealth Suits as I like the way they look much better than the 'new' ones (IMHO).
What I was wondering is - with some christmas money - should I buy Hammerheads/ Devilfish I've heard contrasting stories on weather these will change very much, and as such I don't want to spend money on a vehicle that will be changed in about 2 months. On the same note, I don't want to wait two months if I have to.
Thanks for the advice (ahead of time)!
technicaly you can buy any mini and still be fine. the stealth suits are in for a change, and the XV-8 XV-88 are suposed to stay the same, with new wep op's, being the only change, the tanks are susposed to stay the same... and same with basic infentery (with rumors of a new sprue being added with some special wep's. Kroot arn't going to change, but Kroot hounds and Krootox are going to be Squad upgrades oinstead of Force Orginization slots.

...after a long day of battle rituals, prayer, and sparing... Even the mighty Wolf Lord Logan Grimnar retires to his chambers where he secretly reads "Imperium Today" while haveing Tea and a slice of Pie...
Im pretty sure its safe to buy Kroot, Firewarriors, and Etherals.
I agree with mike I would hold out a little longer for the new nicer models to be released it will be worth it.
I hate the new stealths too. Glad I own 12.
No model should really be obsolete. But you may have to do some crazy conversions to account for new rules. For instance, Stealths will be able to get Fusion blasters (which is awesome), but it will be a bit trickyh to fit that on an old stealth.
I'm going to use the stealth with the gun heald out, cut off the Burst Cannon, and simply place the Fusion Blaster found with the Crisis Suits (may have to pin it to strengthen the hold).Originally Posted by Sir_Prometheus
Although I'll wait for the 'dex to come out before I do the conversion (just in case...)
Here's what's probably safe:
Hammerhead (Skyray will likely be a whole new kit)
Devilfish (Will have the option to replace it's drones with an SMS, but, AFAWK, they're not changing the kit)
Crisis Suits (Only rumoured changes are ankle changes. They're releasing a Command Battlesuit-type box with the new upgrades)
The only things changing drastically are Stealthsuits-everything else is either totally new or just getting changed slightly, if at all.
Burn the land and boil the sea. You can't take the sky from me.

Mech Tau Cadre: 2000 points, needs paint and magnets.
Paladins of Avalon (SW):-1500 points, needs paint.
I'm in the same straits as this guy. I especially wonder about the new stealth armors since we can pretty much agree are just ugly. Im kinda new so I wonder how difficult the conversions will be if I wanted old stealths with fusion rifles. Secondly, how useful would that be anyway since the fusion is such a close range weapon. Good for popping heavy armor and tanks but using them would compromise their survivability.
Mainly I just wonder how difficult conversions would be for those nasty metaly stealths. Could I just cut off the barrel ends and make it look like a single weapon instead of a gattling gun? Would I have to buy parts from both and splice them together?
heres a thought just a thought what if GW just threw in an xtra sprew along with the railgun and ion cannon options thats a good idea so if my idea is correct hammerheads shuould still be safe to buy
