I mean seriously why do so many people go OH! OH! get the duel devourer for your fex or tyrant, If you consider that you need to be in range, and walking tyrants and 'Fexs are slow-as and flying tyrants arent ment for shotting. then their not actually all that good, i tried multiple times with them and they have sucked in all the games ive played using them so whats up with the new craze of devourer armed MC's?
i never got the feeling that there's a devourer craze out there. i never really considered putting puny devourers on my fexes or tyrants weapons should pack a punch.
"I have seen you humans, trying to forge an Empire in the name of a corpse"
i totally agree, but whenever people talk about weapons everyone is saying put devourers on your Mc's and warriors, even guants now.
because the devourer became a whole lot better in our arsenal, it's a good weapon to use against armies with lot's of 5+ saves, if you using it against MEQ there's no wonder there not performing well enough.
The reason why also a lot of people dump it on the fex is to create the cheap devilfex which is on of the most cost-effectieve combos and can be taken as an elite choice in larger games.
I think another role for the devilfex was the 'Anti-Skimmer-Unit', which a Tyranid army doesn't have many of.
Devourers have become popular because of their effectivness on Tyrants and Carnifexs. Consider that a tyrant can fire 12, str 5 shots that reroll to hit AND wound. Carnifexs get 8 str 6 shots. The sheer number of wounds makes them effective against marines. There are a large number of skimmers flying about since assault cannons were improved that they can pound. Their only downside is 18' range and AP -.
i did start a thread wondering if anyone in their right minds would put devourers on guants and why they would do such a thing, the answers were kinda like if you get that many shots youve got to have some hits, they r crp on guants and i would never dream of replacing a gun fexes barbed strangler or vc for puny devourers
Here is the thing, you don't replace your big gun fexes. You add these guys to your big shooters. The devourer fex is a shooting monster for less than 115 points, and people still fear it in CC because it is tough to kill a toughness 6, 3+ save, that negates your saves. The other thing is that it can get some kills on the first turn...your CC fex wont do that, and When 115 points of marines are rapid firing you, and you are shooting back you have the advantage--you should get to shots to break their armor, and they are only getting 2/3s of a wound; and your 2 wounds will force a moral check on them, and if you want you can charge after you shoot...but hell why not stay and shoot all day, you are already winning the fight.Originally Posted by bloodthirst

1. On an Elite Carnifex the Devourer is the most effective shooting weapon.
2. A Devourer configuration is likely to do more damage than a close combat configuration on a walking model.
That being said, no army should be without a couple Venom Cannons as well. . .

well i think a fex should have TL BS os VC. CC fexxes dont work for me beacuse there are to many powerfists out there! but sometimes against guard or sometimes eldar i go t7 and make it to cc and no one can harm it
