Hey ive noticed that in a lot of posts most people dont use enough broadsides. but lets remember how great they are...
1. Strength 10 AP 1 twin Linked shots and a range 24 heavy 4 weapon that doesnt need LOS
2. A 2 up armor save!!!
3. they are by far the best special unit killer and tank extirminator
4. AP1 shots always cause a penetrating hit against vehicles.
5. if Gun drones are used in a squad of 2 broad sides them lascannon hits can be allocated to them since there is an equal mix of armor values.
I mean sure their expensive money wise but think about how good they really are. My buddy (Orks) built a great battle wagon and Basilisk that ive killed in the 1st round using mostly broadsides. his entire retinue of nobs for his warboss with 2 mega armored nobs have been made to swiss cheese by the 3rd round
Some people play the game to have fun you know. They don't feel the need to win the ****ing game in a turn.
Three Companies of the 26th Vinancium
143rd Airborne Badgers (99.9% done)
159th Corsair Rifles (35% done))
69th Armored Wall Busters (95% done)
Total 197 men, 12 tanks, 4 Heavy Artillery Pieces
well sorry that i was in a tornament and sorry that ive lost 75% of games against his IG army and besides he has fun watching my tau run like sissys when my ethereal dies and i enjoy dead orks and some dead IG
All of what you listed about Broadsides is true.
However, let's not forget the other side of the coin:
-they're very slow, immobile if you expect to keep those big guns working constantly.
-they're expensive. ninety-odd points apiece the way I field them.
-they're small units, which means that each casualty hurts. drones aren't cheap en masse.
-no submunitions. Hammerheads can double as swarm killers, 88s can't.
There's nobody gonna argue with how good Broadsides can be, but there's nobody gonna argue with how good Hammerheads can be either. Your Hammers are one of the best multirole tanks in the game, and it's hard to match their combination of mobility, firepower and armor.
Personally, I own two Railheads and four Broadsides, so I can take my pick.

Yeah, it's always good to have a mix of units becuase your enemy is going to be trying damn hard to take out your Broadsides.

I'm glad to hear someone who agrees with me on the broadsides. Broadsides, though they aren't as versatile, are both cheap and good at what they do. Versatility is expensive, just try making a shooty/cc carnifex! Broadsides kill all things tough. People praise the railhead for its horde-killing pie plate. Why, then, are we capable of fielding 72 Fire Warriors? Fire warriors are meant to kill hordes. Hordes come with low toughness and poor armour saves, making the pulse rifle effective, while Terminators, dreadnoughts and tanks are tough as nails but come in few numbers, making the broadside effective. Broadsides can also hold their own in close combat. True, they aren't made for it, but by the time the enemy assaults you, all of their tanks should be dead and gone. Sure, Broadsides aren't made for cc, but they can deal out a lot of punishment, and take even more.
My gaming group's new motto: That army you're using is overpowered because it hurts my guys, codex is broken and needs a rewrite.
i like broadsides because they are awesome tank killers but now that i have an army with almost no FW so i dont take them because they wouldnt be protected at all and a small squad of raptor could come and kill them so i take HH instead
I like broadsides. in one game that i played i killed my opponents land raider crusader and killed his general that was inside of it. That game did not last very long. I have had them last for 5 turns in cc with a jump pack marine squad that had a chaplin in it. it is true that they do not have the pie plate, but its worth it.
i need to find something interesting to put here
Ok Scotty, jokes over... NOW BEAM UP MY CLOTHES!
I like using two Broadsides and two Hammerheads (one of each weapon). Mainly because I don't really like powergaming, but I do like to win. 9 Broadsides is straight up power-gaming cheese. Unless you're playing armored company...then you're just mean :shifty:
Besides, Broadsides can't move and fire, so they can be easily hid from.

i think that brodside are usfule as a meat sheild for my eitherial. 3 brodsides 2 with target lock interface and 2 shield drones while the eitherial has 2 sheild drone meaning my enemy has to go through 4 4+ invunalble saves and 6 2+ wounds. also now my brodsides won't fall back after losing one drone.
