A friend of mine was wondering if ravagers were worth their points cost, I came here seeking advice from the experts.
Similar to most Dark Eldar units they are fast, fragile and hard hitting. They can have three disintegrators which is one of the best weapons in the game. So yes, I think they are worth the points.
Since they are so fragile it is a must to keep them behind terrain in order to benefit from the "only glancing hits" rule. Moving more than 6" means that you cannot make full use of your heavy weapons, and are destroyed when immobilized.
Uh, my post #100!
I think you will find that ravagers are often more than worth their points against power armoured foes, but lack something against more numerous and weaker opponents. If equipped with a Night Shield they can be extremely effective as few weapons in the game will be able to strike you from a distance of 42", those that can will surely be in the squad you are targetting with your ravager, and therefore won't be their at the end of your shooting phase. Clever use of terrain is important, try to hide your ravager behind cover so that only your target and units that are out of range can see you, if you have moved 6" or less, remember to use all three weapons on maximal, but do not forget than if you move between 6" and 12" you can still use all three weapons, one on maximal and two on sustained, the three shots from the disintegrator are still very very deadly to power armoured foes and weaker foes alike, against weaker, more numerous opponents it is osmetimes even beneficial to use sustained fire over maximal, if they are spread out.
Thats a short list of tips, hope that helps, theres loads more to think about with ravagers, but I'll let you mess about with them on your own... after all thats half the fun.
I was leading through this and i am curious since i have no knoiwledge of Dark Eldar weapon strength and do not here it commented on, would a Railgun volley of six cripple a ravager or would it do nothing, also are disentegrators better or worse than railguns, thx.

A volley of six pulse rifles would probably cripple a ravager... Disintegrators are cheaper than railguns and, although weaker, are blast weapons with the same ap, they also have an alternate fire mode in which they gain multiple shots at a lower strength, thi strength is low enough for them to count as defensive weapons, which is useful for obvious reasons as a ravager can be mounted with 3 of them. In addition ravagers have higher BS than most tau, thus they hit more frequently. Disintegrators are the ultimate marine killers in fact they munch through any of the T4/A3+ armies, they are not very good against vehicles, but thats what Lances are for.
i run both all DL and all Dizzie Ravagers both works exceptionally well.
the dark lance version is a very good terror weapon(as you will notice) against armies which employ vehicles with 13+ armour value. 3 dark lance shots will nearly every round of fire cause some effect against vehicles(anyone can have a bad day of rolling though).
the dizzie ravager is as mentioned the uber marine killer or hell pretty much anything withe a 3+ or worse armour save.
learn to love your ravager

Do all you all use the Dissie at full strength whenever possible or sustained?
Either pwns the mariens but I was wondering if the blast marker rules disway you or do you think the blast marker works well?
Why would you want a Ravager with 3 Dark Lances? Being strength 8, only 1 could fire if you move more than 6 inches. And if you sit still to fire all 3, then you're almost guaranteed to be shot down during your opponents turn.
Or is there a Vehicle upgrade that lets you fire multiple heavies I don't know about?
the blast and the sustained are both great options. even the possibility of having three plasma cannons dropped on him is enough to spread out his guys, making it easier to assult. if a squad is spred out, then you use the sustained...either way the other guy is pretty dead.
No terzo there isn;t a heavy weapon upgrade...its too bad. i can;t see too many reasons to use the all dark lance ravenger, unless your dissies are put on raiders or something.
the ravenger is the best tank out there firepower wise (not counting the paper armour) the guns are really cheap too.
you keep them out of range. and behind terrain.
I'm actually not in my sixties. For some obscure reason, my age is set 50 years older than what it actually is.
