Would a Blood Axe army work as a mechanised force? That is, with as many boyz in rhinos as you can cram? With the klan rules, you could take up to 9 rhinos, allowing 90 orks the opportunity to be transported up quickly (although there would have to be some kommandos too), not to mention the warboss and his chimera.
Has anyone tried this? Does it work? What do people think of the idea?
dude while i love the idea, im a marine player and rhinos to put it simply, suck (and this is coming from a BA player), plus when those boyz/ kommandos hop out they are gonna get shot to pieces by humies and tau and eldar, assaulted by oher oks and nids, both by chaos and well i wouldnt want to know what dark eldar and necrons would do, lets just say it wont be pretty. but then again the whole 90 ork ordeal would be nasty and a few kommando squads to tie up the enemy and one tactic is to use the warboss and nobz as a decoy, so while the other 80 orks are sitting there laughing at the boss getting shot, they chrge in next turn with 320 attacks total :w00t: (well if all orks survive)
Why not just play speed freaks? Ork trukks are open-topped so they can move 12 and you can deploy 2, then assault 6. That means your potential charge range can be 20 inches. Spreed freaks are wonderful if your looking to assault with mobs of 10 Orks. you can also back them up with a 2nd wave of boys in battlewagons and some buggies to go for tanks. plus you have a prelimary barrage in EVERY game... fighta bommerz and its dirt cheap.
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
I was planning on doing this as a themed idea, the image of Mech. Inf. Blood Axes really appealed to me. And it wouldn't be 90 Troops choices barrelling out of the rhinos, 2 Troops slots have to be filled with Kommandos. So you'd have some kind of variation in the thing, yeah.
And the warboss would be an extra to this, he doesn't have to go in a rhino. You can take a looted chimera as the transport for him and his retinue.
And they may suck, I haven't used them much. But they can't be upgraded in any way, otherwise they go over the 50pt mark and one takes up a HS choice, not three.
first things first, i have to say, i LOVE this idea! i can picture it so clearly, but i see one glaring flaw, ork break-down. with that many vehicles, sme are bound to break down, and even one breaking down could ruin your plan, which sucks, because i would love to see this plan work....
I've played bloodaxes for about a year now (about 25 games) and had three breakdowns with my russ and chimera in that time. So yeah, with 9 rhinos and six turns in each game that's a pretty high chance of breakdown.
I agree trukks are better. My bloodaxe army has 4 squads of kommandos, burna boyz in a chimera, tankbustaz on foot and trukk boyz with another trukk for da boss. I use looted vehicles for heavy support and trukks for transporting, they're fast and open topped so you can assault when you jump out. With a rhino you'd lose that ability.
Why not have a "counts as" bloodaxe army using speed freek rules with rhino models as trukks? It would look awesome, you could say they're slimmed down and souped up looted rhinos and you wouldn't have to roll breakdown. You could make the whole army look mechy and oomie-like as befits the bloodaxes and take a couple of squads of kommandos for fluff. PLus you could take fighta bommas. I love mechy looking orks with all their clanky machinery

I like the fluff for kommandos so I used a bloodaxe list, but my army are freebootaz according to their fluff. So I kind of do the opposite to what I suggested for you earlier, I use a Bloodaxe list to represent freebootaz as opposed to a freeboota list to represent Bloodaxes.
Some people I've heard of use the Bloodaxe list to cheese up on pie plate weapons but I don't think that's much fun.
I have to warn you, if you play a fluffy bloodaxe list it is quite weak and you can't expect to win (or even draw) very often against "modern" armies like marines or the Tau. I've recently changed my army to a kommando heavy freeboota list and have been doing better. The Bloodaxe list is very limiting on the orky vehicles you can take and useful things like trukkers
i think looted land raiders are under rated...i haven't seen anyone use them. a land radier and a battle waggon can transport a lot of guys...or mega armoured nobs
looted land raiders own, i have one and a battlewagon. they form the core of my army, and give me a solid backbone to rely on. Looted land raider, dont leave hom without one!
