A few questions on everbody's favorite necron unit, the destroyer
1) What do you find more effective, screening your destroyers, or having them zip around? What is generaly more effective, and when is each method most useful?
2) More, smaller groups, or fewer, larger groups? As in, 2 groups of 5, or 3 of 3?
3) How many total destroyers do you feild at differnt point levels? Anyone's examples would be appreciated.
Thank you for your help
My friend uses one group of three and always keeps them moving. They are just the the way the codex puts them. and believe me they are effective. (i think i lost 7 ig each shooting phase). the standard we play is 1000. but at 1500 i guess he would field more. ( he has to get more).
My usual is 2 units of 3 and keep a Tomb Spyder in between them, that way if my opponent wipes out one squad they still have recourse to resurect with the other squad.
So units of three work, and am I assuming correctly that when you use the tomb spider between them, you have them behind a screen?
Do you all use similar tactics for destroyers as heavy destroyers?
I use 2 Units of 3 Destroyers in almost any list I create and I do move them around a lot. the idea is to get wbb rolls even if one unit is wiped out completely. (I also use a Lord with Destroyer bod and orb)
If I include Heavy Destroyers I always take at least 2, but split them up in 2 units and keep them close to my Lord. This way I can maximize durability and Firepower.
I usually try to keep them protected, I mean the 36" range is a long ways so if I move out I am usually only moving to get a firing lane on a big target.
I normally take 5 destroyers in one group.
I would suggest three groups of two, if you have a Tomb Spyder. The firepower from two generally is enough in one area, and if it isn't, you can move in another. Plus, that means they can kill a maximum of two with their great big scary Devastator squad.
Si em, tow en can de lach.
Tak! Tak! Tak ah wan, Tak a lah!
Mi tow, can de lach.
Mi him, en tow.
i usually have my destroyers in 1 group of 5 with alot of screening infront they're a great unit but waay to easy to kill so you better keep them protected.
"I have seen you humans, trying to forge an Empire in the name of a corpse"
destroyers don't come in units of 2
Yeah, 3-5 is Destroyer squad size. (Hvy destroyers 1-3)
