Any ideas on a mech list to beat a tryanid player who has
(sorry not zactly sure what they will be wielding)
Me and my friend are both building up armies for the first time together and i want a list that i can actually win with :shifty: but not be cheezy about it. The above list is the one he is planning on. At the moment i have an 12 man fire warrior squad, a devilfish, and an etheral. Any ideas on whats good for stomping some bugs?
Hey there, I myhself have played tyranid a few times and are going to collect tyranids soon. The answer you must give me is it going to be shooty or choppy.
You are on the right track with the firewarriors and ethereal, I would suggest that you get another firewarrior squad and and stealth squad. reason beain if even if your bud wasts points on the Extended Carapace for his hormagaunts and gaunts, your Str5 AP 5 assault 3 shots can really do some damage against him, so that takes care of the troop problem, oh Rippers youll want to target with the fire warriors just because the stealth teams can get off more shots for fewer guys.
Definently get a HH with the rail gun and Smart Missle System, the Submunition shot can wipe out an entire squad almost. the single shot can take out your opponents Hive tyrant with ease.
As for the Fex and Warriors, get some Crisis teams and deep strike them preferably next to thw warriors so you can eliminate all of his synaspe creatures. Id go with the Missle Pod and Plasma gun combo with a multi tracker so that you can deal up to 3 shots, get no save for his warriors, and lots of shots.
hope this is helpful.
Oh the Devilfish should have no more than a 5 man squad of pathfinders, 2 railrifles and 3 ML Get 2 seeker missles on each skimmer.
1 firewarrior 35$
1 kroot (no shaper) 35$
1 HH 40$
3 Crisis 60$
Stealth and Path 50%
Okay this is what i have have planned out
(11x) Fire warrior squad with fish with multi-tracker (etheral will tag along)
(12x) Fire warrior squad with fish with multi-tracker
(5x) Stealth suit squad
(3x) Crisis suit squad with Twinned Plasma, Missil Pods, Target Locks, Multi-Trackers
(1x) Hammerhead with rail, sms, multitracker
Total is 999
What ya think?
well why dont you wait for the new tau army to come out? it's going ot come out soon like in march or around that time.

Hormagaunts are a problem, cuz they'll catch stealths. I used to get screwed by that all the time.
This is a classic time for "Kroot counter charge" Set up FW, shoot, let them charge you, sweep them off. Or set them up in the pill pox set up in woods, everything has trouble with that.
You might be suprised by how well crisis suits with flamers will work for you.
That is an excellent 1000 pt. army. Not too maxed out w/ a good spread of different units.
My advice w/ that list:
1. genestealers die first. Unless the tyrant has wings the rest of the army will never bring down your fish after that. The only units that can would be the 'Fex, tyrant, and warriors if thay have rending, and you can just keep scooting away while reducing these to ashes.
2. I would not deepstrike against this army. You will probably wipe out the unfortunate target, true, but you will unecessarilly place yourself in assaault range of the rest of his army. W/ an army this small he SHOULD no doubt have overlapping synapse ranges so the idea that you will place his gaunts out of range might not work. Your army has enough firepower to wipe his scary creatures out from afar w/ little difficulty.
3. When he becomes disheartened after continually losing to you, suggest he try some different units. The carnifex is pretty much target practice for your army and he'll be lucky to ever get a good showing out of him. More genestealers will help rend your tanks, and zoanthopes can bring them down as well. Lictors are also good for catching your squirlly battlesuits as they can pop up in any terrain you try to hide behind. A Broodlord HQ would serve him well, as he can infiltrate and deny your army one less place to run to.
I face some pretty mean 'Nid lists but have yet to lose to them w/ a MECH army. The key being his anti-tank units die first, and the rest is just cleanup.
P.S. His army WANTS close combat. Don't give it to him. You will have no need for pillbox units, and fireing lines will be like a buffet. Just keep away and kill his army a piece at a time.

You said "Crisis suit squad with Twinned Plasma, Missil Pods, Target Locks, Multi-Trackers." I just asked a question about this in the rules forum. I don't understand hard points, if there are twin plasma (2) and one missle pod (1)=(3) and unless they're a commander, you are allowed one hardwired system. How can you have target locks (1HW) and multi trackers (1HW)?
