Prove me wrong
I believe Necrons are not a particularly fun to play or good army for three reasons:
1. Necrons armies all look and play alike. 90% or more look and play identically. This makes playing them dumb
2. Most games played by crons are decided the moment you see their army. Necrons armies do really well against certain armies and really bad against some. This is because all Necrons list are shooty.
To explain better in 40k their are four types of armies. These are shooty (tau Necrons and others), CC (korne walking orks and the like), fast assault (speed freaks fast nids) and balanced armies. unless something unusual happens shooty list will beat slow CC (because they blow up the good troops before they get into combat) Fast assault will beat shooty (because you cant blow up the assault elements while your fire warriors are being eaten by nids) and slow CC will beat fast cc (because fast cc spends many points on trying to get there so when they do the army without those expensive movement aids will have an overwhelming advantage.) Necrons can only be made into shooty list so there fore most games are horridly dull affairs while you wait for nothing to happen.
To summarize point two:
Necrons are always shooty (or when not shooty they are terrible, I know I tried)
Shooty list nearly always beat slow assault forces and fast assault always beats Necrons so you never have a close game unless your opponent is balanced (and most opponents are not)
So Necron games are dull
3. Everyone hates Necron players. While this is slightly hyperbolic it is only slightly.

Bob: If you had a dollar for every 60 cents...
you'd be Canada.
Bill: actually i think its more like 70 cents.
Bob: Tar-nation! You stole my thunder!
1. I don't know about this. From what I have heard, you probably won't see more than 2 necron players in the same ares. Since I have not traveled around, I wouldn't know what other people use for an army list. I know that I love using cc necrons and speed freak necrons (essentially anything that can infiltrate, deep strike, or move like a jet bike is in the army...besides the dang 20 warriors I am required to take).
2. I don't know what you have tried, but I have had huge success with my cc necrons. A wraith wing (3-9 wraiths), Dlord to support wraith wing, 20 flayed ones, scarab swarms (some with some without D-fields), and some pariahs to foot slog around with the warriors.
This means that I can infiltrate my flayed ones (within 2 turn striking distance min) turboboost my wraiths to catch up with my flayed ones, then bring in the pariahs and standard troops to mop up if the cc troops are being beaten. I know that fast attack is limited to 3, so that means if 9 wraiths are taken I can't have scarabs and vice versa.
3.lol. Not every one hates necron players. My friend heard roomers about necrons, did his research on how to beat them, then in the moment of truth he forgot this and started acting like it was any other army. Now I helped this along by attacking him on every front possible. Scarabs ripping into fire warriors, wraiths slaughtering stealths, immortals veiling everywhere, heavy destroyers taking out broadsides, and my destroyers eviscerating troops. Heck, he lost about 1,000 points in the first 3 rounds and only killed about 228 points of mine.
He still does not hate necrons, he just has first hand experience of everything getting back up again. Nobody in my hobby store hates necrons, except the guy that has his space fleet. He seems to like attacking his only other opponent more than learning how to kill a different fleet.
1] I'd like to say I fit in that 10% with my Destroyer list, 15 Destroyers and 7 Heavy Destroyers. What youtried to do in order to fit in that margin?
2] Personnaly, I played Necrons in a tourney with my hybrid Tau, technically I should have been slaughtered, I had very few low AP weapons and he had a solid list, we was also the Grand General of last year and that year I played him, he was using pretty much the same list.In the end, if it wasn't for his mobile Destroyers getting to objectives he would only have beat me by 1 Victory point. So matter what the armies used in a battle, it all depends on the commanders to see who wins IMO.
3] I can't see why any mature playerwould hate an army, dislike? Yeah thats fine, but not all out hate.
Necrons are stupid. I mean really, why would GW make an army that takes a creative and imaginative player to use properly?
Seriously. The only thing i need to say to prove you wrong is that you obviously haven't learned how to play them. I've played cron's going on three years now and rarely do i play back to back games with the same army list. I'll admit, necrons allow less flexability than most other armies, but if you take that as a challenge and test the waters you can have a real blast with them. My record with my cron's is self explanatory, and i've played tournies with pretty outlandish lists. The general is what makes the army, and if you realy learn what playing cron's is about then you can make anything happen, and happen often. I've beat Deathwing many a time with my crons, conversely i've had troubles with Dark Eldar, an army that really shouldn't be that much of a hassle for me. Why? The people behind the armies.
Tyrnaids for me? No problem...kinda throws a wrench in that whole fast assault army theory eh? I think your problem is your not thinking outside the boc with your cron's, so you can't find ways to adapt and win where you didn't think you could. Furthermore your opponents seem to lack creativity as well, as if the same armies are always losing to you then there is a problem with that players strategy.
So in conclusion Necrons are not boring, but the people behind them can be.

ive been playing necrons for awhile now and ive never heard someone say they HATE necrons. Ive heard them say they are annoying but thats because i beat him silly. In response to #2 i can see where you are coming from. The armies that i play 99% of the time are tyranids, Black Templar, and Grey Knights so when i win its a great day. I am used to losing a lot since, in my opinion, these are the three hardest armies ot beat with crons. But, it can be done and i have done it.
yea i know what u mean about necrons being dull to play, i have found them quite dull to play also. The only reason i bought necrons is because my footslogging orks all died before they got there so i wanted something that could be alive for more then 2 seconds. All of my friends hate necrons and constantly ream them because there easy to play and win with (except against MEQ black templars) I completly agree with the 4 basic types of games. I love my speed freaks though and they are a blast to play, but necrons are just.. not. They are quite boring.
Everyone complains about how their rules are too overpowered. When Gauss blew up 2 LRCs my friend never got over it and still bugs me about it. The fact they can get back up from plasma and kill a greater deamon with their basic gun has gotten me endless complaints from my former chaos/tau friend. The Nightbringer and Deciever look amazing upon first glance, but i just see them as a waste of life. The fact that a god can be taken down by a sniper rifle makes me cry. Overall i just see necrons as boring, they dont have personality (literally) like other armies like Orks. And you can tell if your gonna win or lose by the list your opponent brings out. Also if ordance is present (which i think brakes teh game) the necron warriors are as good as dead from a battle cannon shell or an earthshaker round. When i talked about adding a monolith or two to my force my friends just taunted and jeered me until i didnt even bother. When i went to the GW store with my necrons, many people (even an ultramine player!) refused to play me until i got a game with some biel tan eldar. Everyone says that necrons are a combonation of all the beardiest rules and when i try to tell them that they have no mobility or anything like that, they just get mad at me and tell me thats not true.
Also my friends hate my speed freaks orks because they cant see their "flesy +6 save bodies." Ive had them call them "poser orks, car orks, gay orks, fag orks, Kustom Force Field Orks, and orks that cut their nails with their choppas" Overall, im just losing interest in teh game because its not fun when you get flamed everytime you pull out your army. (Hey i could flame the black templar MEQ lists my friend plays, or how horrible he is with his guard, but thats not the point) Its just not fun when people hate your army, and have no sportsmanship qualities, im just sick of it

Dark Eldar- 1500 1/0/0

I have a tip for you: 1.) Sell you crons on Ebay. 2.) Get some Zoloft.
I think you took a rather simplistic approach to defining the Necrons. Yes, their strong suit is medium range shooting, but several armies in 40K are designed around specific strategies (i.e. Nids, Tau, IG, Orcs, etc.). You either choose to run with this, or you design a specialist list. Yes, they have trouble with fast CC mob armies, but this can be overcome by sacrificing shot quality for quantity (i.e. maximizing warriors and adding lords with GoF).
I’m not sure what kind of childhood trauma would cause someone to post an inflammatory rant about a particular army on that armies forum space, but I hope your rant has helped start the healing process.
Good luck with that.
GD's are only T6....that means that any basic trooper in the game can bring them down with a bit of luck, its no easier with crons.kill a greater deamon with their basic gun has gotten me endless complaints from my former chaos/tau friend.
But honestly, you guys don't seem to have any imagination. Yes, I can see cron's being boring and lacking in persona if you decide your going to play a phalanx every game and have a foolproof list and paint them all boltgun metal.
Any bloody army would be boring if you did that.
People have to actually work and apply some life to their necron armies. Paint them a little different, make a squad leader for each squad even though he doesn't actually have any game value, apply some backround to the army. Try switching around your units a bit and playing a different list and try to make it work.
Other armies have this come naturally, necrons you just have to work to do it. You guys are saying necrons are boring but the facts are your just to lazy to do anything exciting with them. Hwo can you expect them to stand out then?

Sabe i totally agree with the imagination thing. Necrons look cool in boltgun metal but its up to the person playing to paint them. Personnally, i painted them with botlgun, then blue ink washed them, and gave them gold shoulder pads so they look a lot different from the norm. And must say, my blue and gold monolith looks pretty sick.http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ilies/wink.gif
One of my friends plays Necrons and he has run into a similar problem.
No matter how you slice it, the Necron army list has fewer choices than virtually any other. No matter what you do, you will always HAVE to take two units of warriors, which cannot have sergeant or leader upgrades, no heavy weapons, no special weapons- just warriors who all have the same stats and the same weapons.
Necrons only have one vehicle- less than any other army in the game.
Nearly all Necron armies have to take at least one lord with a res. orb to be competitive.
Even if you try to build an assaulty Necron army, it will still be pretty similar to a shooty Necron army. Compare this to say, space marines or eldar: when they build an assaulty list vs. a shooty list, they can take an ENTIRELY different list- different units, different vehicles, different characters- not a single model would be the same between the lists.
One area that I really feel sorry for Necron players is "the hate". All Necron players get "the hate" whether they deserve it or not because so many people consider Necrons to be imbalanced or powergamey, which is clearly not the case. (if a close friend of yours thinks they are powergamey and invincible, let him play your army- it will change his mind) Nearly everyone in tournament settings has complained about getting "the hate" in form of nerfed army composition scores, painting scores, and sportsmanship. This really is a problem for Necrons.
