Been having a lot of trouble versus IG opponents lately. If a guard player goes heavy on the tanks, it's not a problem with our birhgt lances. However, infantry-heavy guard is a serious problem for me, since there's nothing in the Eldar army list really good at taking out fire lines. The normally very good Starcannon only gets 3 shots, and with Eldar BS3, usually 1 kill after cover rolls. Scatter laser doesn't do much better, and EMLs are still overpriced. I suppose scorpions in serpents would do the job, but it's quite difficult to get it across the board against massed lascannon and heavy bolter fire, and I don't want to get a fully mechanized army just to beat a few opponents.
Anyone found any good units or tactics for dealing with guard? I'm sticking with Eldritch Storm, Shuriken Cannons, and Deathspinners for now, but it is really insufficient.
Hmm, I'm not sure if you could get it across the table alive but hawk delivery systems usualy masacre guards.

hmm infantry heavy guard can be a headache. first of all what craftworld do you use? if you are flexable try alaitoc. ranger distruption can help your assault get there in one piece by cutting down the number of shots you have to face. also kill officers asap. without them the guards ld will be much lower which can really help matters.

To be honest it would help if you coudl tell us what craftworld/vanilla you play and what you have.

How about some nice Storm Guardian flamer squads in Falcons, they should incinerate a squad before going down. You could also try War Walkers with Scatter lasers or Guardian defender squads.

Did you try a nightspinner? I like it, basicle an eldar version of an imperial basilisk, good range and nice guns
when i vs my friends guard I just take stealth off my scorpions and laugh at him as my fortuned scorpions absorb everything hes got. Once he's realised his mistake my avatar's hit him. However you'll probably be vsing someone a little wiser. I suppose warp spiders could work if you keep them out of sight.
I say just try and scare him into shooting one thing.
That looks like a 1k point army to me so 3 wraithlords looks very cheesy. :yes:

well, guardians will get torn apart before they get within firing range(Which is very short for some magical reason (12":x )) So the best vs infantry would be weapon platforms from long range, dark reapers are pretty nice against nearly anything as powerfull as a space marine. As for heavy weapons, I know we dont have a perfect armory to choose from but we gota stick to wut we have. I say pulse lasers, scatters, missile lunchers and flamers. Lances are only good vs tanks so if he doesnt have any dont even bother getting em. I think the best thing is a pack of vypers with targeting matrix so they can fire at any point on the move(Hop from cover to cover), also dark reapers are crazy snipers vs anything (Expensive but usefull), scorpions are nice if you get em close, from there they become nearly unstopable(Watch out for Ogryns) Ogryns should be countered with either missile lunchers or starcannons. i would avoid using falcons and serpents cause knowing IG, they will tear em up by the end of the 1st turn. Against heavy weapon teams I suggest warp spiders or even better swooping hawks, these have only one purpose which is to kill as many heavy weapon teams as possible. IG are the only race in my opinion who dont fear the wraithlord, they can take it down fairly easy. Ow yeah, almost forgot, some rangers are nice to pin infantry and storm troopers.
3 units of 16 defenders and 2 units of 16 storm with flamers is what i use... actually i pretty much use that against anythin but i find that guard and nids and orks fall like leaves to a forest fire (usally started by me)
