ive already got 2 hammerheads and was wondering if it would be wise to get a third i know they are good but i was wondering what u guys would think
thanx for any help
3 is a lot, I doubt you will need any more (3 usually get the job done).
Absolutley, I take 2 HH in 1000pt battles and always take 3 in 1500/2000pts.Originally Posted by Vaki
The HH is the single most usefull unit in the Tau list, not only as anti armour but also as anti infantry with the subs round. The submunnition id the single most underated aspect of the Tau armoury, in fact its the main reason I take the HH, the solid shot is an added bonus.
The Benefits of subs include:
Brilliant for taking out any 4+ or worse save models try dropping three subs on a 4+ unit and watch them crumple.
Good for taking out lightly armed vehicles, its not an ordnance template so the STR6 counts no matter what part of the template touches (good against open topped skimmers like Landspeeders, Raiders and Ork vehicles) and good against open topped vehicle squadrons.
Decent at taking out 3+ save models.
Wounds most on 2+
BS4 and no scatter so very precise and will be even more dangerous with markerlight bonuses in the new codex (i/e hitting on 2+ and wounding on 2+) no cover saves.
3 HH with railguns is a must in my book and anyone who says its cheesy well just point them towards a standard marine list Landraider / Predators / Dev squads / Dreads for a list with 10 /12 sometimes 14 Lascannons and they dont get called cheesy, Necrons with Destroyers and Guass weapons that kill armour on 6+ (auto glancing) do they get called cheey? NO.
Three HH are good so yes buy one if you think it will suit your list, but wait till the new codex comes out because for your list one of the other options may well be better suited (will have to be good to replace a HH though).
Have to agree entirely HH's are the single best units available BUT If taking markerlights In any decent number the Skyray equipped with 8 smart missiles and SMS Is also worth a look
Yep the Skyray does look good, some interesting uses come to mind (not only the BS4 markerlight on an AV13 skimmer), but we will have to wait and see as to its ultimate effectiveness, all I am saying is it will have to go some to beat the Railhead HH.Originally Posted by Cadian7th
The only thing I dont like on the Skyray is the limited number of shots depleted every time you shoot.
in my opinion you don't need a third hammehead. instead use your 3rd HW slot to take a 3 man team of broadsides.
thier missile and rail gun weapon loadout make them very versatile and deadly and it can actually take MORE to take down a 3 man broadside squad than one hammerhead.
i like the hammerhead don't getme wrong. but i have found both playing AS and AGAINST the tau that 3 broadsides are a LOT tougher to lose/take out than a hammerhead
I got lost on the road of life
i'd get a third HH and this Tau Devilfish Sprue C 99390113005
buy some magnets and have the HH be able to convert into a devilfish for say a pathfinder squad.
Or you can get the Skray sprue when It's released?
The Skyray is supposed to be released around mid April, of what I've heard.
Remember remember the fifth of November... Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason... Should ever be forgot...- = Always watching = -
I say get the Hammerhead. 2 is good but three is brutal. I always take 3.
There once was a Lord named Vlad,
Who's fighting skillz really were mad.
He killed and he maimed,
He spilled blood in Khorne's name.
And the fact that he's legal makes me glad
