    Musings on Zaap Guns

    Might they actually get 5D6 to beat vehicles, not 4?

    The accepted rules for the zaap gun against vehicles are auto hit, 2d6 strength + 2d6 for armour penatration. However, listen to this amalgamation of quotes:

    Rulebook, page 72: "Against vehicles, grenades have the following penetration:", going on to list the various penetrations for the types of stikkbombz. This suggests that the phrase 'penetration' is used to mean the value compared to the vehicle AV: ie, S+D6 in most cases.

    Ork Codex, page 36: "Against vehicles, the gun rolls its strength on 2d6 as normal, and then adds 2d6 to the armour penetration roll."

    Could this not be taken to read that you figure out the armour penetration as strength plus d6, and then add 2d6 to the roll for the zaap gun special ability? If not, and you believe that 'armour penetration' is used to mean the value added to the strength, is this not evidence that grenades get strength added to their penetration?

    the keywork for it not working is that the part you looked at is for GRENADES which DOESN'T have anything to do with a zappgun.
    The zappgun just stays at the way it normally work.

    The Zzap gun rules come solely out of our Codex which is 2D6 str + 2D6 penetration. The possibility of 4D6 vs vehicles armor (minus that 11/12 on str doesn't work) is really enough if you think about it. Its one of the best short range weapons in the game.

    I cannot resist to write this, sorry. Faq files are valid over codexes since they are printed more lately. In the ork faq the Zzap gun are simply listed as Heavy 1. Strength as before. Not even ordnance. Nothing about the extra pen.

    Yes, I know, if an ork player could reach me now I would be throttled.
    And, yes it is probably supposed to work as in the codex... but still :shifty:

    It says so in the armoury entry, and not updated in the FAQ. Therefore, it gets extra penetration against vehicles.

    please see the wargear book. they considered heavy 1 for shooting, however str and armor pentration are as above. no throttling necessary.:w00t:

    max 10 is correct, they scorch something on a 11 or 12, except when in a vehicle, then the puff smoke and nada happens
