I play w40k about 11 years mostly tyranids and necrons during this years i found that guard is useless (at least in my play style).I start dont use them at all and if i wont a srong brood of "bodyguards" i put warriors restricly h2h (with impalnt attack , fleshhooks ,st and rc also i can use them as leapping warriors) and i found this is better cause u have a unit that can do almost everything (attack and deafence).
MEAT IS MURDER
But with STBO warriors cant stop your tyrant from being shot. Guards can.
With a higher T and better SV, the Guard are also a LOT harder to kill. Warriors are more offensive, Guard are more defensive.
This is not a problem when u play LARGE points gamesWarriors are more offensive, Guard are more defensive.
And also this is my point when you have "multi" units in your army is good for you.bat the warriors must be pure h2h speaking from my exp.
MEAT IS MURDER
In large games, i allways take 2 guard with my each of my winged Hivetyrants,
i throw allot of points into my tyrants, and the guard almost allways garantee that the tyrants will survive first turn, if there is not enuff cover to hide the tyrants in in the first place
Guard with winged tyrants may seem stupid...but once your tyrant has walked 6 inches closer to the enemy, on your second turn the tyrant's can leave the brood's of guard and fly 12 toward the enemy then assualt 6 inches...then the guard can make themselves usefull and form a body guard for your carnifex by the way tyrant guard with there high Initiative compliment Carnifex's very nicely, and stop your carni from dying
Army of the heavens, my army waits in hell
To battle on the earth, for all the souls who fell
