Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am thinking of starting a Dark Eldar amy. And wanted to know if anyone could give me a quick review of what the army is like. Are they a shooty army ? CC ? numbers ? etc etc. What are they best at, and what are there weakness ?
One of the reasons I am thinking of starting one, is that it seems not many people play them, is this also true ?
they are definitly under represented amongst WH40K.
-Great CC/assualt ability
-One of the best HQs
-Great troops choices (whether wych cult or standard)
-Extremely fast army
- Init. Means you will almost always strike first
-Simple but effective armory
-Less choices overall for the army. Makes building an army list easier if a bit redundant.
-Cheap effective weapons (splinter cannon, dark lance, dissie, blaster, most haem weapons) with troops that can do something about it. Who else hates wondrous weapons held by a soldier with BS of 3 or 2?
-Every part of the army is made of glass (extremely fragile). It takes a good general to keep them out of firing range/sight
-Your friends might laugh at you (at least this new khorne chaos guy gives me all kinds of grief. I need to beat him... )
-Some bad models (see Grots, haem with stinger, helions IMO, some wyches, warp beasts)
-lack of choices for army
-Your heavy section is anything but heavy, ignoring the Talos of course which is still not that heavy and largely too slow to work with the army if you don't build tactics around it.
-Some units are extremely difficult to use effectively if not worthless (see Mandrakes, Scourges, Grots, Talos, Helions.)
-In an army that is supposed to be fast your fast attack options are painful at best (reavers look GREAT but are so expensive both PTS wise and $ wise. Helions aren't so great looking and are once again expensive both in PTS and $.)
-Raiders and Ravagers are to big IMO
Sorry that was a bit long winded. Good luck.
Dark Eldar: 1/1/1
1st game Dark Eldar Vrs. Blood Angels. Result = Draw
2nd game DE Vrs. BA Result = DE victory
3rd game DE Vrs. BA Result = DE loss
Thank you very much for your insight !
Reavers don't suck, their the best bikes in the game for their points and possibely otherise too, name any other bike and i'll compare them, the only reason I won't now is because i've done it so many times before.
Scourges win me games.
Reavers are not expensive, (no more than anything else atleast) you get 5 in a battleforce, thats good.
Ravagers are absolutely sick!
If anyone laughs at you, keep a record of anyone who does so you can hold it against them when they call you cheesy for beating them. It happens lots of times, they say how much our army sucks and when you wipe the floor with them they start crying cheese.... fools....

I´ve come across a fair amount of people that play Dark Eldar but its still to safe to say they are pretty rare.
without repeating myself the stickied-topic "Basic guide to the new ones!" would give you the basic understanding of DE.
""What's the matter? Don't ya like clowns? Don't we make ya laugh?" - Captain Spaulding.
DE can be put up in a few ways, uber assault, potentially shooty, they have one of the nastiest HQs in the game, but the thing that puts me off them is the minis to be honest, some of them are plain naff
Everything you have been told is a lie!
Indeed, we have some ugly models, bot some great ones as well! And dont worry about the ugly models, you can convert alot of other 40k models/fantasy models into kickass dark eldar models. If you need any advice on how to make your army look absolutely smashing, just ask!
And I disagree on the comment on some of our models being useless, every model in the DE list can be useful and win games, its just that some are more specialized than others. When starting out, stick to warriors, wyches and raiders, and start using ravagers, reavers, hellions and the like when you get a feel for the army.
Best of luck dude! You just made a good choice by starting DE!
I'm asking! I'm asking!Originally Posted by Farseer Sareld
Heh heh... I actually like most of the models, and I'm a huge fan of the Hellions (or at least their hellboards).
What I need help with is the following:
Archon/Dracon ideas (I'm going to convert them from a warrior, but what should I use for the weapons?)
Wyches: I was going to use the fantasy witch elves but I"m not sure if anyone has any experience with this
Archon on a bike: what should you do to make them stand out from the rest of the squad?
Also, I'd like to feature slaves/prisoners on a lot of my vehicles/scenery, and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on what to use for the unlucky souls?
Sorry if it appears I'm hijacking... I figured that since there was a question about how bad the models were this would be useful info for the person who started the thread, as well as helpful for me!
I use an incubi punisher for my Arcon (see my sig), but you could also take the agonizer arm from one of these (http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefr...002&orignav=10) two models. And there is always pistols in the warrior boxes, so dont worry about them.Originally Posted by kidsyndromeI use fantasy witches for wyches, and they work great. Just slap the pistols from the warrior boxes on them, and youre set to go! Their exotic curved blades can even count as WYSIWYG wyche weapons.Originally Posted by kidsyndromeUse this the rider from this model instead of the original bike rider:Originally Posted by kidsyndrome
BTW, you can mail order the rider seperately without buying the dragon.
Alternatively, if you wish a wyche lord on a bike, this model might be of interest:
Just cut of the lance and glue on a sword, then you should be set to go.Well.. use the actual models. I have a few dying ultra marines lying on some of my baces ect, all you need is to model them in a "suffering stance", grabbing their bleeding throat with both hands ect, and add some watered down blood red for effect. In fact, space marines or eldar guardians are probably the best models to use for this, because they are very posable. Some places you can buy small sample boxes, containing only 3 basic plactic soldiers. Also, remember that you can get good results mising fantasy skeletons with cadian parts. a skeleton wearing a flak helm, flak jacket and a lasgun strapped or nailed to the front of a raider can look really cool. You can get the chains and spikes you need from this sprue:Originally Posted by kidsyndrome
All great ideas! Thanks a bunch!
