Welcome to Librarium Online!
Is that Commander O'Shovah a good choise for a new tau player? or should I just go battle suits for HQ? with ALL fire warriors..(thats all i want)
I know that its a special char.. but it also says no gun drones.. that JUST means a squad but can i still put them in a squad?
He's generally considered poor because you lose lots of the Tau's cool toys (hammerheads, stealth suits etc).
If you just want a crisis and firewarrior army he's pretty good, but its cheaper (points wise) just to use the standard list and not using the other stuff.
I like him as you can build (what is essentially) a CC tau list, though its got the CC skills of guardsmen.

I say just wait till the new tau codex comes out and see how his rules have changed, otherwise no I do not recommend him at all for beggining tau player, let alone any tau players. heh.
seems with the new codex all special characters must be takin in armies of 1500pts or greater.
not sure what the restrictions are on say skyrays or sniper drones.
You are going to love this. I have just read up on O-Shovah in the new codex and here is the kicker. As well as being pretty tasty in combat, Farsight can have a Shas-vre bodyguard of up to nine (Yes NINE ) Crisis battle suits that can all deep strike at the same time. That is an awful lot of firepower turning up in one turn and ripping you a new one.
Unfortunately being a virtual pariah in Tau society he does not have access to Ethereals, Kroot, Vespids, Sniper drones or the new weapon systems. In addition he still has the same limitations on Pathfinders, Hammerheads, Stealthsuits and Broadsides. However this is also now extended to Skyrays and Piranahs. His firewarriors are automatically upgraded to Ork fighters having prefered enemy against orks. All characters with access to the armoury automatically come eqquiped with a bonding knife. (Nice.)
Aun'Va has pretty much condemned O-Shovah as a heretic :realmad: who has abandonned the greater good which means it is open season on his head.

Wow......9 suits.....thast gotta be about 3/4 your army right there....but its good. If they scatter onto terrain I would laugh so hard when 80% of your army dies.

A good use of pathfinders and their devilfish with that teleport homer-like equipment would prevent that
Where did you hear nine?Originally Posted by Zephyr_the_AzureWind
Because Me, my store owner, and my grandmother have a pretty solidly confirmed 7.
Also, the Ork Fighter upgrade is said to have been made cheaper *can't confirm, but many have rumored*. I also heard/read something about 'Perfered Enemy' for them, but this may be a mix up with the new Ethereal rule.
And I don't think Farsight Encalve Armies can have Pathfinders...at all.

Firewarriors have prefered enemy against orks and you are right O-Shovah can have between 1-7 Crisis battle suits in his retinue. I also believe that XV8 crisis teams are 1+ so you have to take at least one Crisis team.
As I believe O-Shovah does have access to pathfinder teams.
