I'm building up my first tyranid army, and in fact my first GW models. The instructions leave a little to be desired, especially with regards to identifying which model is of which weapon. Specifically, i bought the battleforce, and for my gaunts, i have no idea which weapon is the spinefist. The codex mentions that spinefists are always given in pairs, and from the name i'm assuming it replaces the model's fist, so i'm *guessing* on which model it is.
Is there a pictorial ID chart or something in one of the books i'm missing? I currently own the tyranid codex and the hardcover rulebook.
Same issue goes for the 'Fex and the Warriors btw, no idea which is which.
In the above link are the sprues for Gaunts. The weapons in the middle of the first sprue are obviously Scything Talons. In the middle of the second sprue are Fleshborers. On the third sprue, the weapon at the top are Devourers and the weapons at the bottom are Spine Fists.
That last sprue is also available for Tyranid Warriors.
On the second sprue, the weapon on the left is a Barbed Strangler and the weapon on the right is a Venom Cannon. On the third sprue, the weapon on the left is a Deathspitter.
The weapon at the upper right of the first sprue is a Venom Cannon. In the lower right is a Barbed Strangler. The arm that is next in the list is a Bone Sword. Below the head is a Lash Whip arm.
That first sprue is also available for the Carnifex.
In the second sprue for the Carnifex, the upper weapon in the bottom right are Deathspitters. Below them are Devourers.
Note that not all of the sprues are shown for some of these models.
Why do the survivors remain anonymous -- as if cursed -- while the dead are revered? Why do we cling to what we lose while we ignore what we still hold?
Name none of the fallen, for they stood in our place, and stand there still in each moment of our lives.

Ostsol has taken care of the weapons, here's the biomorphs:
The coloursection of the codex is also very helpful, look at page 54 and you should see how a spinefist looks, in fact all the gaunt weapons are there.
WOW! i never would have dreamed of such a perfect reference, Thanks guys!
How the real question is, would it kill GW to include this info for us new tyranid players???
hopefully this will be useful for more then just me.
In the back of the codex from page 50 to 58 there are pictures of various models. The captions have a full description of the bio-morphs & weapons.Originally Posted by king88mob
That teaches me not to look at the captions of the pretty photos. Thanks for the pointer.
