Welcome to Librarium Online!
It just occured to me that you can make your falcon (ect.) all BS4 instead of the standard BS3 using VDR for the mere sum of +20 points, provided that it is a PL + SC falcon. I think that its a fair cost, and the solution could become the end of lousy BS3 models in any of my armies, man I have been looking forward to this! I just have a few questions regarding this:
1) How would you represent this WYSWIG? I was thinkig of converting some new heads on to my crew, and claim that the vehicle was crewed by rangers/black guardians/aspect warriors, but it will be hard for the opponent to spot. Is that fair?
2) Is VDR even legal under the 4th edition rules?
3) If so, is it tournament legal? I know that VDR is chapter approved, and that chapter approved stuff is legal in many tourneys, but then again VDR is potentially the cheesiest thing ever. Perhaps under special circumstances?
4) Do you think that all BS4 CWE armies are fair?
Thank you for reading!
What exactly is BDR, do you know?
And was it a recent WD article?
Hell bent on twisting the rules of Inquisitor to my dark desires.Mod Edit -
Ignore this person. What a waste of perfectly good oxygen. There are kids in Antartica or China or Korea or some other country that would kill for the oxygen you are wasting with each passing minute.
iv got them in a chapter approved book thats a few years old. i dont think you can get them legally online. and back to the first post
1)as long as you tell them beforehand. several times if they are none to smart (like me. i only grasp new things on the third try...)
2)i think so but not 100%. it should be, at least for those armies who havnt had a codex update.
3)i really doubt it. you have to ask your opponents permission in normal games so i reckon they would just say no in tormies.
4)do you think all BS4 marine armies are fair? what about tau with that upgrade. true they dont have the starcannon but even so...
Everyone makes mistakes. mine was to leave her head in the fridge.
No, but Tau will have an hardwired upgrade in the new 'dex called targeter that gives them a higher BS.
I think that it doesn't need to be modeld, you could say that the tanks targetting matrix have been upgraded (better range finder, better stabilatzors and so on) and since we are one of the most advanced races in the galaxy (only Necrons are more advanced) I find it strange if you were forced to model it.
As far as I know, it is not legal on tournaments or in GW stores etc. But no one will stop you from using it with your friends. Except maybe your friends, but I think it's a rather fair price for the upgrade anyway. However, with the VDR, doesn't it depend on if what weapons you have? A BS4 Shuriken cannon costs more than a BS4 TL-Shuriken catapult if I remember it correctly; you paid for improved BS on each weapon instead of for the whole vehicle.
The rules are from a dusty old chapter approved from 2001 so I don't remember them exactly.
Oh, and I think all BS4 CWE armies are fair. Like my Ulthwé Strike Force... But to have BS4 in a normal Eldar army, sure, but then they need to cost more points.
Warhammer Fantasy: Warriors of Chaos, High Elves
Warhammer 40k: Eldar, Space Marines, Orks
Exactly. the 20 points it costs to make the entire vehicle BS4 is the total price diffrence between the BS3 and the BS4 cost of the weapons, according to the VDR. I guess I´ll try and playtest it, to see if it is fair. I always hated how the eldar used poorly trained soldiers in battle, and this is perhaps a way to avoid it, without loosing the vehicles.Originally Posted by Viktor
And how can an official GW product, such as the chapter approved books, not be legal in GW stores?
vdr are not "official" perse' but that really means ya just can't use em in tourney's unless otherwise stated
on the matter they can be found in the old wd with the ulthwe' tactica in it and in chap approved but i don't like vdr especially as a scapegoat for an army's weakness

Changing the BS would incur points lift, interestingly Eldar used to be BS4 in the good old days, plus there was a points system to generate stats lines, but it isnt as simpel as just increasing the BS and adding some points, you must also consider the army balance - how it works as a whole, increasing the BS of IG for example is far more valuable than incerasing the BS of a Khorne army
PS thought of doing this to a fire prism??????
Everything you have been told is a lie!
Well, of course there is the balance issue, but personally I dont think that BS4 eldar would be overpowering in any way. My idea was to create a standard CW Ultwhé army with 2x black guardian squads, a unit of warp spiders, and a few BS4 falcons/vypers, and claim that this Ultwhé army had access to black guardian vehicle crew as well as the normal black guardian squads. I do think that the extra points it would cost me would even out the advantage I gained, but I am aware that some opponents might blame my army for being unfair if they loose.
And about the fire prism, well, no. A BS4 prism would still only hit 4 times in an entire battle, and it would still cost too much to be worth it. The prism cannon is simply too weak.. a shame, really.
