Ok if I were to chop off the barrel of a dark lance would you consider that a blaster in a tournament? Also I can't for the life of me make gruesome talismans look very good. Anyone got any tips on modelling those?
I know I'd have no problem considering a sawn-off Dark Lance as a blaster. Personally I've been using the old 2nd ed. plastic Guardian meltaguns, but they're usually quite hard to come by.
In regards to gruesome talismans, I find that the extras from the kroot sprue (hooks, knives, bits of meat) are not bad, as are the severed heads you get on the zombie sprue.
On a related note, severed heads could also be used to represent trophy racks, as could the "heads on a spike" bitys you get from the Chaos range.
Rather than spend the money on a blister of DLs to cut just use the extra SCs you get on the warrior sprues. Cut the barrel down leaving just enough to glue bayonettes from extra SRs on. That was how I did mine and have never had a complaint in an RTT.
What you want to make sure of when converting weapons is to make them all the same and readily disitguishable from the base weapon you modeled it from. Also convert them all from the same base weapon to avoid confusing your opponent.
