Welcome to Librarium Online!
Have any new things been put in white dwarf about DE like Variant lists and special characters etc. The codex is so outdated it still uses third edition rules. Give me more goddamn choices like Fast Attack??
Well apart from the revision a few years back (which should be in the revised 3rd ed. codex), no.
Aside from that, there are other units/rules you can introduce to add some variety to your Dark Eldar list. Almost all of these require your opponents permission to use however.
Forgeworld has the rules and models for 2 Dark Eldar Flyers - the Raven and the Razorwing. They are both okay rules-wise, if a little expensive. Personally I like the look of the Raven, but not the razorwing.
The swamp fighting rules in a past (post-4th ed.) WD allowed mandrakes to deploy 6 markers per squad rather than three. Obviously, this is only for games played in swamp boards.
There was a creature feature article a while back that allowed you to add Carnosaurs as heavy support choices. They'd make a worthy replacement to the Talos, but it is also something you really need opponents permission for.
The same creature feature article also let you add 'wolves' you your characters as wargear (in the same way fenrisian wolves can be given to space wolf characters).
The Kroot Mercenaries list (downloadable as a pdf on the GW website somewhere) allows you to add units of kroot to your army. I believe this is the only option here that doesn't specifically require your opponents permission to use, and could possibly be used in some tournaments too.
If you can find them, there are some vehicle design rules (VDR) whch allow you to make you own vehicles. Generally they aren't points efficient, but if you're really hanging out to field some kind of Dark Eldar Doom-Titan with multiple long ranged twin-linked, mega-gatling Dark Lances, you can.
Finally, both the Daemonhunters and Witchunters codeci have rules in the back of the book for fielding adversary lists. Basically they're extra units you add onto your existing list for your Inquisitorial player to fight against. The Daemonhunter list lets you possess your HQ with a greater daemon and adds the option to add daemons as troops, while the Witchunter list has a few HQs - a rogue psyker, apostate cardinal, or (my favorite) the option to turn your own HQ into a psyker. Troops added are the mutant and traitor guardsmen units normally found in the Lost and the Damned list.
EDIT: I almost forgot; Harlequins! I believe the rules for them are around somewhere, but you are definitely able to take them as allies (you still require opponents permission I think)
So while there has not been an actual update for the Dark Eldar codex in a very long time, there are certainly options available to you if you wanted to try something different.

I know but out of the three different tournaments I have ben to, not any has allowed any of these. The Harlequins are also unofficial and you would be hard pressed to find a tournament that allows allies let alone Harlequins. I am fielding a non-wych army and I wish there was another fast attack or something.
