Welcome to Librarium Online!
Played a game last night...testing out the Kan wall startegy, but minus the Mekboy + KFF (next time I'll add it). It work sreally well.
Anyhoo, My Kans were pushing through with a bunch of boyz right behind them. My Tyranid opponent decided to try a run around the Kanz (since that unit would be unable to do any damage at all to the Kanz) and try to attack my Boyz. A rule came up that says a player is unable to end a move turn within one inch of an enemy unit if that moving player is not intending to assault that unit. So his Nids could not squeeze past the Kanz to get to the Boyz and had to instead assault the Kanz.
I'm not familiar enough with the rules to either confirm or deny this. Is anyone here able to second the rule? (I can't even find it in the handbook right now)
Also, if this is true....what is to stop a player from arranging two separate units in a way that prevents an enemy assault. For example, two Boyz units of 15 each (Call them unit X and unit O for the example) can be arranged like this:
If an enemy unit cannot assault two units at once and cannot move to assault a unit if moving within one inch of a different enemy unit.....how can you assault one or the other of my Boyz squad?
This simply can't be legal, can it?
you are allowed to assault two units at once. As long as the distance between the units is not more than the assaulting units base width apart...if you set things up like your example then the units couldn't possibly be more than a base width apart therefore you could assault those two units.
the kan shield wall is still viable, so he would have to destroy the kans to get to the boyz unless he can get around and end up closer to the boyz (majority of his unit) than to the kans
hope this helps
Never judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes...by that time they'll be a mile away, and have no shoes
It technically is leagal to use positioning to prevent an enemy assault, though very unsportsmanlike. The tau have a similar tactic with devilfish transports. the rule you are looking for is on page 37 of the big book.
