Hello everyone! I have a battle comming up against another 'Nid player. He uses classic 'Nid tactics, lots of gaunts, a 'fex, a tyrant and warriors for synapse, and possibly a broodlord with a squad or two of stealers.
I was thinking a shooty fex with twin devourers and giving all my gaunts TS and AG-I so i strike before his if he does not used them.
I have 1250 points to use... any suggestions? I usually only play Nurgle, Iron Warriors, and on occasion Slaanesh so I dont wanna pump stuff up with alot of wasted points...
well, if he has stealers, the one thing i'd try is to tie them up in close combat (which wont last for long) with some cheep spinegaunts and just hit those when they get free with your big guns.
Either that, or fight fire with fire and go straight for him with your best stuff, maybe pit the same units against each other, but the problem with fighting nids as anyone is that if you do go for the little ones, it'll take up so much time, that the big ones get you, whereas if you aim for the big ones, then the little ones swarm you
And so the Ultramarines Tyrannic War Veteran says to his friend "Lictor? I hardly knew her"Originally Posted by Karmoon
well I think I'm gonna have more big things than him so I think I'm gonna try and put my gaunts up to his gaunts and my sealers vs his stealers and let the big things battle it out with my extra biggin backing stuff up... The mroe I look at it though I'm starting to think it is gonna be all in the hands of the dice gods....
With nids on nids (ooooh zeno-smut!) go the mirror of him.
If he is going CC en-masse, go for a heap of shooting. Warriors w/DS and VC or BS, Shoory fex w/BS etc. Shoot the real threats - genies etc and then when he gets close throw in your own CC units.
Basicaly, just sit back and shoot heaps. Try for two turns of shooting then get stuck in and let the dice gods decide the day.
Just keep the stealers away from the big stuff. If you kill his stealers he has little or no counter to your MC's I'd suggest FLAMERS oh wait.... Devourers are the best at removing these guys or rippers to tie them up either way keep ur MC's away from the Genestealers.

personally I think that's a great game for a broodlord. he pops up near the enemy's synapse, and that could do some damage. or near a carnifex, rending on the stealer retinue, and the broodlord is just plain no armor saves and pretty high strength.

I've played nid on nid battles before and I must say the victor is usually who is the shootiest. This is one of those few situation where deathspitter armed warriors are golden. Seriously I think a squad of 6 for me killed almost all of my opponents gaunts. Other weapons like barbed stranglers eat his lighter units alive. Devil fexes are golden aginst his 4+ save units like upgraded stealers and warriors. As other posters have stated the broodlord can actually be very good against the strategy I just stated. If he wants to sit back and shoot, the broodlord can eat through his backline units, including fexes, like they were nothin. Good luck.

well maybe it should be in rules forum, but here is something i wondered about synapse rules while going against another tyranid. What happens? Does your enemy's synapse count for you too? or is everybody responsible for their own synapse range rules.
from a fluff point of view this would have to be a different Hive mind no?? A single Hive mind would not expend resources fighting its own mobs so your own synapse is all that matters.

If hes got stealers I would try using barbed stranglers and devourers to inflict multiple low strength hits. this will also be effective against his warriors who are often best dealt with by multiple hit weapons because they are often lethal in assault and being synapse creatures are immune to instant death. This means str8/9/10 venom cannons, high powered warp blasts and carnifex close combat attacks are unlikely to deal with them quickly.Monstrous creatures will be very vunerable to any of the following rending claws, implant attack, toxic miasma, acid maw and lashwhips. These things negate toughness, strip wounds quickly andmake it easier to hit him and hard for him to hit back.
