I received the new awesome malanthrope fig.
I am hesitating to take it as the HQ in my next tournament, or to keep it for friendly games.
the stats of the beast can be found on the forge world site:
It is a cheap HQ (140 Pts), but not a MC (still a large creature targettable).
Not a MC means weak anti-armor power, and it does not ignore armor saves~.~
And its going to be slower than a winged tyrant.
Still I like the idea that you can have 2 malanthropes for roughly the price of a fully geared winged tyran.
- Amphylactic shock seems fine, but "any wounds from the malanthrope causes instant death" means woundsbefore or after armor saves?
So what do you think? Is this monster worth getting out in my next tounament?
Can you use FW models in a tournament? Maybe if it's a local one but i think things like Conflict you can't.
Have you used it before? I'd recommend using it in a few practice/friednly matches win the army list you would use in the tournament just to see how it goes. It has pretty good stats and is hard to kill as a HT, but a little random in cc, BUT can get up to 8attacks on the charge which is nice.
I'd say give it a shot in atleast one practice game, and if it does alright and you fell like some fun and something different by all means use it in the tournament. Whatever you do,
i cant stand the malanthrope for its role. its basicly a giant ripper, a stomach to pick up dead and dying things after a battle. so why is it HQ?!
is it that bad to be an HQ.
Besides it's deployed at the latest stages during a tyranid invasion, it's a nice model and the are good, it's not ment to be a cc powerhouse like the tyrant or broodlord.
Whats up with that giant hole in the malanthrope's chest? It looks like he should be able to plop spore mines out of it or something.
it must be a sort of mouth, to absorb dead bodies, digest them and take on their DNA.
I'd say after, since it makes sense from a fluff standpoint and since I think that any wound saved by armour is ignored as if it never happened. However, I can understand from the wording how it can be read as "before".Originally Posted by Noctus
Why do the survivors remain anonymous -- as if cursed -- while the dead are revered? Why do we cling to what we lose while we ignore what we still hold?
Name none of the fallen, for they stood in our place, and stand there still in each moment of our lives.

Yep, it's a mouth for devouring the corpses/victims it picks up.Originally Posted by InnuitFireman
I'd say don't bother using a Malanthrope. Its a nice centerpiece, but you can get a much more effective HT for less points. If your agains MEQ, its abilities are worthless. Against non-3+ save armies, its a nice buy, but with the prevailence of MEQ... Its just not worth it since opponents still get their saves.
