Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm thinking about starting nids, i was thinking about using biovores, ravengers, a carnifex, and the basic troops and hq not sure about elites yet any ideas to help a new person out?
To start out such an army:
1x Hive Tyrant
2x boxes of gaunts.
This will provide you with the mass you need. Other exspansion may come to however you see fit to your list.
I'll come back with an in-depth help to you in a bit, I am writing something BIG up for the Tyranids section.
seeing how im short on money and im still splitting my costs between starting nids and finshing off my eldar army i was thinking about spending 35$ to get the box of eight ( plastic Termagant models, eight ( plastic Hormagaunt models, and one (1) Ripper Swarm and another 10 or 20 on a biovore, the gw shop has two different prices, i know theres no hq in there but at least its a starting list and there are still games that i can play, and knowing that my friend is starting space wolves i have a feeling he'll let me proxy a hive tryant until i can get one, but i'd still like some advice on where i should go after doing that
hm....... I say stock up your cash. Don't start out just yet.
Even though it is tempting.
Finish your eldar army, then IMO stock up for a Battleforce.
It gives you a fat pack all at once, and besides you don't have enough to field a legal army or even effective army spending 35$ + 10-20$ on a biovore. So you can't even play with it, so whats the use? A little wait won't hurt, since you have eldar.
Otherwise I would HIGHLY advise you look to purchasing your items via online. They will save you much more money, especially on such a swarm army like this.
Oh and a Codex is VERY ESSENTIAL to starting any army .
Or if you and your buddy friends would be nice, split Battle For macragge in half, and you get some el cheapo built nids, but the bang for your buck.
okay so by the end of the week i should have enough money for the battle box, other than the additional boxes of guants and the hive tyrant and the codex which i have the money for, where should i go after that
After that, you can expand into other units. Maybe proxy some if your opponents let you so you can get an idea on what you like.
You may want to consider:
...really anything that appeals to you. Just keep a balanced, fun and effective army to play and you should be fine. You may also want to read through some of the other threads, articles, and tacticas to give you a better idea.
From what we've found you can't get much cheaper than where we go for our stuff, The Time Machine, I have a 20% dicsount and he has the 10% discount (I know the owner and have a friend of steve card (the owner) and we are both constant costomers (started out with magic the gathering (get very boring and too many updates so we changed to WH4K))

There are several swarm types as it were I'll try to give you a idea about what they are here.First the standard swarm. Hive tyrant, warriors, lictor, hormagaunts, gaunts, genestealers a carnifex and a biovore with any rippers to eat up spare points. This lot will give you flexibility so you can deal with varied enemies without having to plot and scheme as if you are planning the d-day landings. It will also give you access to a good variety of what the tyranids have on offer for painting and biomorphing fun. Second swarm swarm. This is full of all the cheap ones gaunts, rippers, hormagaunts, genestealers and a Broodlord + brood as HQ. This mob can soak up loads of firepower making single hit high strengh weapons of little use for the enemy on the other hand it may have trouble dealing with heavy armour and have synapse issues. You will have to paint alot of wee ones for this but it will look great when finished. Third fast swarm. This lot are made up of the fastest nasties and specializes in assault. Wingedhivetyrant, leapingwarriors, wingedwarriors, hormagaunts, raveners and leaping rippers. It can start tearing the enemy to shreds on turn 2 easily but is overly dependent on assault to win the day. A small amount of firepower will greatly benefit a swarm like this. You may also find carnifexes are needed as back up. Fourth Godzilla swarm. This swarm is based on monstrous creatures and must be at least 1500 points so you can have carnifexes in elites as shock troops. Make up is 2 hive tyrants 3 cheap carnifexes in elites cheapest troops 2 broods of rippers 3 bases each and finaly 3 carnifexes biomorphed to the max in h-support. This swarm is very strong, tough and can destroy anything the beasties gang up on. It is however rather slow.It will provide you with a limited number of models to wok on when you paint and biomorph it. I hope this is helpful I would advise combining the best elements of each swarm to maximise the overall effect of your gaming strategy.
