i'll be having a game with IG soon.. i would like to know how you guys generally would play if you faced one??
i know 1 on 1, DE would be able to slaughter them, but IG usually out number DE.. so how do you deal with this??
and usually what units should be taken out of action 1st/ the most destructive units??
any additional advice/ comments would be great
well im new to DE but I have played against IG before I found tha the worst thing is any tanks or heavy weapon platforms, most of the time the las rifles wont be that much of a problem but a lemun russ battlecanon Is gonna trash yah. Also I think that if you mount your warriors in a raider the las rounds cant bring it down so you can fly by and assault those pesky autocannons behind his lines. Again Im new to the DE so dont shoot me if this dousn't work out.
"They shall all taste OBLIVION!,.....which tastes like Red Bull, which is disgusting."
Destroy the autocannon units first! Autocannons are the single greatest weapon vs. DE, and the sooner you destroy them, the fewer raiders/ravagers/reavers will be raped by them.
And no, IG does not usually outnumber DE, as IG tend to have many tanks. Zap the tanks with your lances, and have your warriors and wyches rape the infantry.. IG are not really that great vs. IG.
NB! If you see a hellhound, point ALL of your guns at it and fire untill the inferno cannon dies. Hellhounds are pure evil, and any DE units that gets exposed to its fire is dead.
I started playing IG a while ago so I think I could help.
First, Just like Serald said kill the autocannons, they will anihilate your skimmers
IG players LOVE armored fist squads, jetbikes with blasters should surround em as quickly as possible, nail em and let them burn with everything inside
Infantry platoons hold the line, they are usually armed with special weapons for extra firepower. They will probably be using either flamers or grenale launchers vs us, so I suggest rushing the raiders, disimbarking and charging with wyches before they get a chance to fire. This isnt too hard since raiders skim 12", disembark 2" and rush another 6" with wyches without combat drugs, with you can get 12" charge.
If you plan WWP, then taloses a very usefull, in fact WWP is the best anti IG strategy ever so take that into consideration.
No need to take incubi since IG armor is thin as toilet paper unless you face grenadiers.
Most players base their Ld on vox network with master vox in HQ choice, I suggest snipping the HQ out so the infantry will not benefit from any of those good morale and Ld upgrades.
Troops have very low Ld and wont pass most Ld tests without HQ support
Beware of hellhounds, they will make dogmeat out of your infantry with their inferno cannons.
Overall I suggest WWP, get tons of wyches, 3 taloses and a descent HQ with some sniper squads. In CC he cant win, in ranged you cant
I've played twice now (and expect several more games this year) against a list with 3 Leman Russ's and a Hellhound, plus the requisite las and heavy bolter teams, plus about 6 or 8 plasma guns and another 4-6 missile launchers. In short each squad has 1-8 weapons that can shoot down a raider.
First target is always the Hellhound but sometimes he's able to hide it. Next are the Leman Russ. Hopefully you can deploy sniper squads in cover within 36". I've never played a game where I could get a first turn charge. He deployes within 2" of his table edge so I usually have to roll everything up one side of the table and hope I can consolidate into his squads. Which usually means I can't shoot at anything within 12" of a CC. His Leman Russ just fire over the CC which really hurts any Raiders that haven't yet unloaded troops.
So far I've lost twice by a very small margin to him. But even under optimal terrain and gettng first turn I'm not sure how to crack that nut.
