What's the best configurations you have had succes with for a one man crisis team?
And specify what situation you used it in as well.
I'm am trying out a monat for close assaults on massed light infantry:
Twin linked Flamer
HW drone controller
2 Gun Drones
He will need soem clever manouvering, as the drones are a liability when being shot at from mass small arms weapons, as they have the majority toughness. Against high strength weapons though they are useful.
He gets 5 str 5 shots, 2 of which can pin, as well as a flamer template with re-rollable wound rolls.
Thats a pretty solid configuation for close assault. You have clearly thought this out well. I personally don't use flamers on crisis suits, though they are cheap, and if you are a good combination of lucky and oppertunistic they will cause serious head aches.
But if you want specifics, it will depend on which army you are fighting. I will give some rough examples.
Against a low save, medium/ low tougness force (tyranids, orks etc) I would kit him out with a twin linked burst cannon, a hard wired multitracker and either a flamer or missile pod (just in case !) It would be worth giving him drones too, as the ability to pin even one unit can be crucial. In fact, drones are a must have with a monat, its like giving him an extra two wounds!
Against High save high Toughness armies (guess who) Twin Plasma rifles are your freind. They are expensive, but so are most AP2 splat causing chums. If you don't want to do that, or are tight for points then go for missile pods. I would be tempted to throw in a burst cannon here, they are very cost effective and the ability to put that extra three shots in will make a difference. Again, a multi tracker and drones.
Another of the Monats many beauties is that they have the potential to turn most vehicles into cottage cheese. Especially with their manouvreability. Twin linked fusion baster and a missile pod = scary up close submolecular death. Drones may not be as essential here. A good thing about tank hunting monats is that the unwary opponent sees only railguns as a threat. Go on, surprise them !
The thing I don't like about monats is the fact that many people see them and treat them as suicide units. They are fluff wise, but they are a very expensive suicide squad. Gue'vesa fill that niche. The key is, don't throw them away, use them carfully, to support and augment your firepower.
Good luck matey.
Hey, I've got a stupid question (stupid on my part). I've only had the new codex for a couple days, and I only noticed the twin-linked flamer after looking at this thread. How does this work? The previous Tau codex didn't allow a TL flamer. Why the change and how does it work?
re-roll failed wound rolls, which is very juicy :p
That is teh juicy.
So do I. I dont understand what a multitracker does. Sorry im so special-ed:wacko:Originally Posted by IGFreely

allows a crisis suit to fire 2 weapon systems per turn. Normally a model can only ever fire 1 weapon per turn.
I had an idea for one
I think it will funny to have a suicidal tau bomber man
If you can see Chuck Norris he can see you, and if you can't see Chuck Norris you could only be seconds away from death!
I run my commander with 2 shield drones, hw multi tracker cyclonic ion blaster, plasma rifle, shield generator and feel no pain. I place 1 wound on the commander if just one shot gets through (so I can use feel no pain). So far he has been alive at the end of every game I used this setup for.
But your shas'vre looks really great for taking out massed infantry. all you'd need to worry about would be a lucky shot from an insta-kill weapon.
Ask yourself why in the world would you trust a win loss record? Playing them yourself is the only way to tell.
The true joy in the game is playing down to the last model, no matter the odds.
