Welcome to Librarium Online!
I like the idea of a close combat Fex, but getting him to the front lines in one piece is hard and even with multiple wounds and a good save he can be wiped out by warwalkers with scatterlasers pretty easily, so i want to put two guns on him but in the codex it says if there the same gun they become twinlinked, does the twinlinked part apply only to the smaller guys like the warriors or does it apply to the fex too
No it defintley applies to fexes which is why you should never twin-link most gun (with the exception of devourers). This is why most players use the standard gun fex or the dakka fex:Originally Posted by Pathofskulls

Carnifex (113): Enhanced Senses, 2 TL-Devourers
The first is for anti-tank duty and the other is anti-infantry and skimmer.

It affect EVERYONE. Id reccomend taking either a Vc/Bs combo (Venom Cannon/Barbed Strangler +Enhanced senses + anything else you want) or a 'Dakka' Fex/Devilfex, Two sets of twin linked devourers and Enhanced senses. DevilFex is good for anti infantry/anti light vehical/skimmer. Gunfex (Vc/Bs) is good for anti tank or anti infantry. Those are the most common types of fex But choose what you want.
Edit: Damn Drifter beat me to it... Ah well =P

I also have to chip in and recommend one I use, which is made for killing infantry and light or medium armor.
Barbed strangler, twin-linked devourers, enhances senses, spinebanks, reinforced chitin. This guy regularly wipes out entire units of stuff like IG or Eldar and puts a hurting on Tau and even Marines.
Tyranids: Hive Fleet Kohr-Ah
If you buy any tyranid two of the same weapon it will automatically become twinlinked and count as two weapon symbiotes. Unless it already is twinlinked like twinlinked devourers.
If you want close combat carnifexes to work try distracting your enemy with ranged weapons.
You could also try cheap assault carnifexes so you can have lots of them. Also a carnifex doesnt have to specialise in either shooting or assault it can do both. A carnifex with crushing claws, adrenal glands, enhanced senses a venom cannon and spine banks plus any other biomorphs you want.
A carnifex like that can be good at both shooting and assault. Or you can specialise it and probably make it cheaper. If you want assault based carnifexes to last you must protect them or get lots of cheap ones or both.
specialize the fex's, it's easier and their cheaper that way, the all-round monster fex looks good on paper but in reality it isn't worth it, when it's in cc it's asting the points invested in enhanced senses and wahtever gun is has, by staying at range it isn't making use of it's cc skills.
The twinlinking on a fex is one of the only things I liked better in the old codex, twice the shots was way better.
Personally my fex has ec, enhanced senses, and a twinlinked barbed strangler. I know many people don't like twinlinking the heavier weapons but I like it. I tried out different set ups like an all around fex, a cc fex and mixed weapons but my fex works well for a tyranid-long range troop shredder which is what I primarily end up needing it for even if I don't plan on having it be asigned to that. The key to fex's in my opinion is to keep them cheap but still able to do the job that you want them to.
