Okay I like the sound of a splinter fleet army, but heres the catch (don't laugh) I have no idea what a splinter fleet is. Please enlighten me.
Eddie Guerrero R.I.P. we miss you- Chavo Guerrero
A splinter fleet is one of the older fleets that have been betten in battle but the survivers have now scattered into smaller swarms randomly attacking ill defended worlds to survive and grow back into a full grown Fleet.
It sounds cool yes.
After the its defeats at Ichar IV and Craftworld Iyanden, Hive Fleet Kraken divided into an unknown number of splinter fleets. Read page 14 of the codex. Regular Hive Fleets are massive. Splinter fleets are small enough to personalise, like making your own Marine chapter. Hive fleet Kraken was the second major incursion and I use the fluff to explain why I use the 3rd ed. models.
As the two above have said.
I hope you aren't thinking that you can have different rules for splinter fleets like SM traits?
Its just a fluff thing, and a paintjob thing.
It would be nice to have traits like the Marines wouldn't it?
Have a look at the forgotten fleets in the Tyranid section of the GW website for further ideas about Tyranids separating from the main hive fleets and gong native ,well after a fashion. I think creature feature is where the rules for those things came from.
Also there are rules about on the GW website again for a variety of nasties giant lizards etc which might make interesting ways of personalising your swarm. Plus I do remember seeing rules for the Catachan devil which is supposed to be some sort of Tyranid thats gone native again.
I don't know how much of this stuff is still there. I suspect some of it's in the archive section and I don't know whether it requires the other players consent.
