Welcome to Librarium Online!
I saw the rule for a sniper drone team and i fall in love with them. The only thing that bother me are the price for a special FW and 3 little drone. I saw some topic how to convert the sniper drone very easily but didin't see anything for the spotter. I was looking in my bitz and i saw something thatr could work. You reminber the thing every tau player have alot but none use it? The shield generator? Well, what do you think if you put in the arm of a FW and make his head like he was looking at it. Could it work? If you have any other idea, feel free to help.
Thanks for future help.
If you're looking for something simple, I'd just use the model that comes with the Devisfish/HH sprues; the guy with the binoculars. To me, he looks like he's actually 'spotting' and not 'playing PSP'.
So, you could take the FW arm with the little gadget that looks like the scanner from Ghostbusters. Most people assume that it's a drone controller. Take the binocular arms, shave off the left arm and hand from the binoculars with a knife. Now you have a spotting device and a drone controller. What more could your spotter need?
"What more could your spotter need?"
The stealth feild projector for one :p
You could probably make something suitable from spare Tau bits, like the sheild gen, or the metal commander bits like the command and control node, some legs for it made from a burst cannon..

I've considered this too.Originally Posted by virus646
Idea 1) convert the sniper drones but order the Spotter bitz.
Idea 2) when I got a ForgeWorld crisis suit commander last year it came with the complete sprues for a Crisis Suit as well as all the resin replacement parts. I'm thinking that the Spotter PSP device looks like a Crisis suit leg/foot with a huge Tau Head shape hood on top. Perhaps use a Drone dome as the Hood thing. Perhaps one of the Crisis Suit Wargear bitz, multi-tracker/target lock on a tripod, could suffice instead?
I would plan on hacking up a crisis suit leg and foot. For the spotter himself, use the binoc guy Durandal mentioned from the DF/HH sprue and cut him at the waist to add to a left over crouching leg from the Fire Warrior sprue.
Idea 3) variant of #2. While the above attempts to convert something that closely matches the original, perhaps it would be good to stray from that. As long as your team clearly looks like a Sniper Team....
It would probably be easiest to use the Binoc guy from the DF/HH sprue as is; Standing, using the Binocs. Then use a Drone dome without the undercarriage and fashion a bipod/tripod for it. Perhaps with a left-over plastic foot from a Broadside kit (since it comes with metal feet too...) Add some more Crisis wargear bitz (multi-tracker/target lock/shield generator) to represent the Stealth generator.
Try to fit the Spotter & Device on a 40mm Crisis-sized base.
