A few questions.. it's been.. 2 years since I've started my Tyranid army, and while I played a few games after I started I'm just getting back into the swing of things while I'm in Germany (Have to do something with my time) and while I'm getting my Tau army started (Not a new idea.. I wanted to do them in the same time as I started Tyranids, bought the old codex and everything.. *laugh*)
I'm finishing the paint jobs on all my old tyranids
And looking at all the new models..
Well, I have a few questions
Which is larger of these models between 3rd and 4th edition models:
Carnifex (My new tau pirahnas are larger than my fex.. and the poor thing is feeling tiny )
Also, What's with the death leaper? Is it just a special character? Special ST mutation? Or what?
I'm waiting on it before I get my lictors (LOVE the new models)
Broodlord... I need an HQ for my army (1300 points, but I never had the cash to buy my Tyrant.. and something erks me about the new tyrant.. prolly the head, only have warriors)
And with my squads of GS as well as a fairly Go Get 'em army (Hormies, Spinegaunts, Raveners, 230 point Fex [LOADED CC]) this Broodlord sounds intriguing, even with the limitations inherant in putting him with the genestealers..
But what of his model? I kind of like the pose, but I want to know if I can change it? I've yet to see a broodlord in person and the model's pieces don't seem to leave a whole lot of room for variation, must he always be arching back like that without heavy conversion?
I'll post an army list as soon as I coordinate it with the new rulebook.. and remove my mutations.. I'm really going to miss the gaunt with a venom cannon... oh gods it looked ridiculous, but you should have seen people's look of horror when they saw me put it down.
Till then, thanks for the help!
In 4th edition the Carni and tyrant got bigger, tyrant also got a bigger base:yes:
I think the raveners and lictors stayed about the same size but they sure look a lot cooler.
The death leaper is a new special character, a variation of the lictor. It isn't very good but its a nice idea. There are rules for it on the UK site under tyranid special characters.
The Broodlord is a pretty awesome guy. He kills in cc, has a really high initiative and is realatively cheap, plus comes with the retinue. The problem with him is that the guy moves at normal model speed. This makes him annoying to get into combat unless you infiltrate him well. The other thing that is annoying is that when you have the retinue it is majority toughness and armor saves so unless your retinue is seriously depleted, your taking wounds on lower armor saves and toughness. Its not that bad though.
The model isn't very customizable in terms of its head and body. One big lump'o metal. I wanted to make mine more stealthy so I turned the legs in the square hole so that he's crouching over and then used some green stuff to reposition the arms. But over all, the body can't really be changed without a lot of converting.
Bleh, I was afraid of that.. so much for my hunter screamer being the biggest thing this side of a Zoanthrope, guess I'll just have to buckle down and buy that new fex...Originally Posted by Warrior47
I really don't like the new tyrants head.. but I'll see what I can do.. wonder if a conversion is in order
And aye, I know, I've seen those rules, but I'm not sure if they still apply, do they? It wouldn't make much sense for them to release a variant of a lictor just for that promotion.. maybe they just wanted a new model.. *shrug* in any case.. I like it, 3 eyes and better looking rending claws/talons.. more sharpy.. The conversion and the rules are form 3rd edition, that's what makes me worry.. Well, I'll see it when I see it..
And aye, I've heard about the lord getting fleet or anything, just able to infiltrate.. still going to try one out though, I like the model itself, not he position.. but I like it.. The sketch in the new codex looks better though, him standing upright.. I've had enough of hunched over figures, playing a troll in World of Warcraft does that to you, my posture is better just from unconscious adjustment
Too bad they removed those old Tyranid transports.. I wonder if I could find those models on Ebay again.. *schemes*
I'm planning a flying tyrant based on the new plastic Carnifex's body. With a bit of conversion work, it should turn out well. Luckily, they both have about the same "look" going for them. With some major modification, you could probably make a good stompy tyrant out of one.Originally Posted by Slizarus
The brood lord is actually really, really good against certain armies that monstrous creatures tend to fare poorly against. (Sisters of Battle spring to mind, for some reason I just can't place). The brood lord and his retinue are death itself, even with majority toughness against him. I usually use one because he hits the enemy lines at about the same time as my CC baitfex, Drang.
Actually the rules for the deathleaper came out right as the new codex came out so its 4th edition but the conversion is with 3rd edition models.
The current rules for DL are not 4th edition, they 3rd edtion from the Canadian "rise of Swarm" campaign.
