Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey i play tau for two years now and i just got the new codex from games day and i have one question really. With a sniper team, 3 drones and one spotter, do I have to maintain unit coherency and if so do i have to maintain it with the other teams? Can someone please tell me the rules behind the unit coherency of these things? Also, Is it possible to use the old XV 15 Stalth suits rather than buy the new XV25 ones?
ok, i will try to answer the best i can.
as far as I know, each sniper team can still operate independantly, but each team has to maintain cohearancy. and I believe the old stealths are illegal in tournaments (just a guess) but Im still gonna use the old stealths in my games with friends.
i need to find something interesting to put here
Ok Scotty, jokes over... NOW BEAM UP MY CLOTHES!
old Stealths, for the most part, will still be legal as they are still mentioned under the stealth suits entry. Our nearby tournaments are all allowing them, and you'll be hard pressed to find one who won't. That being said, the new ones come with fusion guns so you may want to buy them just to have the spare guns.
And yes clzzrd is right about the drones, just keep each squad in coherency with its own squad mates, not all of them. They run by normal infantry coherency rules, just like Firewarriors.
Ask yourself why in the world would you trust a win loss record? Playing them yourself is the only way to tell.
The true joy in the game is playing down to the last model, no matter the odds.
If anything, you can just make a chain of them in each 2 inches away from eachother and that would get you an extra 6" on the last guy.
As far as I can see the old XV15 suit is still legal and (I know this will start a discussion) they can take all the upgrades mentioned in the Stealth entry of the codex.Originally Posted by cllzzrd19
It says stealth teams equipped with the XV15 and slightly larger XV25 suits, and it does not mention suit designation numbers again in any part of the codex entry, so nowhere does it say all the upgrades are restricted to the XV25 suit so as I see it all you old XV15 devotees can still use your XV15 suits with all the benefits of the upgrades available in the new codex and that includes Fusions and seeing as the fusion is the same as the XV8 one conversions should be easy and cheap. I am gonna convert some of my old XV15 suits just for the laugh.
Also for all you people who are going to quote the old codex entry well its no longer legal and the new codex does not state any suit restrictions to XV15's
I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to use you XV-15s as 25 anyway. I use my old striking scorpians as new striking scorpians, the rules have changed but I still use the old models.
What it comes down to is that as long as it's a GW mini, couldn't be confused for something else, and is of appropriate "feel" then you should be allowed to use it in a tourny if you like.
But then again I could be wrong.

XV15 Stealth Suits are still perfectly legal and can get all upgrades listed in the stealth suit entry.
Mentor of Space Marine Commanders far and wide.
Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
Why wouldnt they be legal, they are stil on the same size base, atheres nothing that really cahnged about them. People use the "classic" or older models all the time why would it change for the stealth suits.
Also the drones are independent as seen in the drone network within the drone rules.
The Predator Lingers forth. Suddenly the sound of several wipping sounds can be heard far off into the distance, a second later the once mighty Predator ignited with flames. "Sir what was that" The srgt replied "Its those damn Broadsides"
Hear the wip, fear the Broadside.
I'm sorry, what? Could you explain that one? Every other example I've seen of such rules means that multiple squads can be taken within a single force organization slto and that those sniper can move independently but must keep unit coherency within their own squads. AKA, I can take 3 sniper teams and thus have 3 teams of 3 drones (and their spotters) acting as 3 seperate units but those units themselves must maintain coherency.Originally Posted by steel_legion
Are you trying to tell me I can take one single sniper team and have my three sniper drones spread out ignoring coherency rules?
'Cause if so, I think everyone would like to know.

Short answer, GW is stupid and you have to keep the drones in coherency with their controller.Originally Posted by Shas'o Tau Dev'n Kauyon
Long story,We've had this debate in several threads, some people argue that since it's one choice then you could spread them all out, and some poorly done GW pictures have shown them operating completely out of coherency. Of course, similar GW ads said that you can drop them off with your devilfish (which is incredibly false and moronic), so we disregard them.
Edit- I believe steel legion is suggesting the drones can move away from their controller, not true, the drones are not a seperate squad from the controller.
