My friend has a space marine army made up almost entirely made of tanks with ordanace blasts.
what should I use in a 1000pt or less game.
Keep in mind I have no strategic skill what so ever.[COLOR=red]
As far as i know a SM army can't have more than three ordnance marker weapons (three vindicator/whirlwinds). That's hardly the entire army if you play 1000pts.
Generally, a carnifices with venom cannons are good against tanks, as well as a winged hive tyrant with warp blast.
Hive tyrants with +1 BS and warpblast usually do the trick for me, also take some Zoanthropes and maybe a carnifex or 2, its sounds like you opponents army is lacking infantry, so dont go for mass hormies or other gaunts, instead try get some stealers into combat , lictors with there rending claws and high str can do damage aswell
Army of the heavens, my army waits in hell
To battle on the earth, for all the souls who fell
Carnifexes with venom cannons own high armour tanks they usually just stun or shake the tanks with the cannons but that gives em time to close the gap and rip em in cc
Hide a couple lictors in the middle of the board. His vindicator has to move to get in range. All you need is a 6 and you should put the smack down on him!
I'm all about having a winged HT (or 2) with warp blast and the BS upgrade. Strength 10 and the ability to jump 12 and shoot 18 is the ticket
Whirlwinds are murder on gaunts. I suggest taking a couple big swarms. Set them up on the table edge farthest from the whirlwinds. That way you will probably only be in range of one (maybe none)
Don't worry about the gaunts dying. That's what they are there for. Use syth-gaunts (6pts) with a couple rending clay mutations. That makes them too dangerous to ignore, but still inexpensive for you. Make him shoot at the gaunts while your HT jumps around and wreaks havoc. I use 2 HT's will all the trimmings (200 pts each). In close assault they can take out entire squads at a time and at range they can pop any vehicle in the game. They are what wins the game for you.
Speed is everything. Get across the board as fast as you can. Give them LOTS of targets so that they have to spread their fire. If they shoot at the HT's then the gaunts make it. If they shoot at the gaunts then the HT's make it. It's death no matter how you slice it!
Hope this helps!
Lets keep it clear... Use Carnifex with vennom cannons , zoanthropes , lictors or fixed Tyrants.
MEAT IS MURDER
To avoid Ord markers in a cheesy way is to spread out the maximum coherency(although this can be tedius i make ords ignorable and u can get on as if its just a gun with alot of shots like splinter cannons).
He's shooting You with indirect weapons, so shoot him back... Biovores with Acid mines should do the trick!
Just place the mines on the vehicle and You're guaranteed to hit, unless You scatter totally off... Just remember there is NO top armour value! The armour facing is determined as per page 86 of the main rulebook.
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
Uzi, the mines are Strength 4 at best - you won't be able to take down tanks with spore mines (well, perhaps by glancing if the rear armour is 10, but you're not so likely to hit the rear armour even if it is). And 2D6 scatter is quite a lot you know. If the tank is a 6 inche square (hypothetical reasons), you need <3" scatter or a HIT to stay on top.
Bio Acid mines roll 2d6 armour penetration.
Just place them 0.1" in the "rear arc" of the vehicle, most things that can fire indirectly have a rear armour value of 10. Still, the chance to hit is only about 50% though.
