Welcome to Librarium Online!
My friend is considering starting 40k and was attracted to nids because of the warriors. However he doesn't really like the guant models. So I suggest something like this
That has a told of 72 warriors, with a 144 wounds. Ouch. So basically would this work?? How many points are we talking, I thought somewhere around 1850-2000.
Necron 2000 14/1/13
How come everybody else on this forum has 400 wins to 2 loses? I smell cheese.... and beef... sandwich!
What was Rogal Dorn doing when the Sanguinius and the Emporer got killed???
Woohoooo I killed the treeman!!! :)
I killed the Glade riders too!!!! :)
It'd cost alot more than that. . .
Enhanced Senses, Toxin Sacs, Extended Carapace
8 with Scything Talons and Devourers, 1 with a Scything Talons and a Venom Cannon
Wings, Adrenal Glands (both)
All 9 with Scything Talons and Rending Claws
Just for all those Warrior squads it'd cost 2751 points. Drop it down to 6 Warriors per brood and you can fit it in a 2000 point army with almost 150 points for troops. It'd certainly be an imposing sight on the battlefield. . .
Why do the survivors remain anonymous -- as if cursed -- while the dead are revered? Why do we cling to what we lose while we ignore what we still hold?
Name none of the fallen, for they stood in our place, and stand there still in each moment of our lives.

What about genestealers? Or carnifexes?
The problem with warriors is that if they are kitted out to be CC beasts, genestealers can deal more attacks much faster than warriors. Stealers have much higher initiative and WS, they also have fleet for free. Warriors also drop relatively fast due to low numbers, slow speed and crappy save. Even with leaping or wings, stealers are much better for their price.
As for shooting, its generally best left to fexs or tyrants. Their high toughness, strength and save all help with this role. A shooty warrior is generally quite expensive yet doesn't deal the damage you would expect from it's price. Also the TMC's dont drop like flys to bolters (or heavy bolters if you take EC).
Don't get me wrong, i love warriors! They are, in my opinion, the best looking tyranid unit. I just wish they were as effective as they are cool.

ya there is alot you can do without guants but the problem is you sacrafice your numbers at that point. you dont need to overload with warriors maby use fexes of zans for shooty stuff and use some warriors but dont sink all your points into them. not only that the cost of aobut 23 boxes of warriors would be kinda crazy
You should also tell your friend that an army with that many warriors is gonna take some serious money..$600-$700 dollars.
Warriors are one of the best all around unit in the tyranid arsonal. You can't compare them to genestealers or fex's because their different. A genestealer can't be ranged and cc warriors are a lot faster than fexs. Plus they have synapse. Comparing warriors to those guys is like comparing a space marine to an assault marine. Of course the assault marine will be better suited for cc but the normal marine can also be tricked out for range.Originally Posted by Zlatko
Warriors are one of my favorite units and are great, although are slower now they don't get fleet. The real problem is that they are very expensive. Without tax or shipping or extra upgrades the warriors in the proposed army will cost around $840 at $35 per box.
Hive tyrants are supposed to be essentially massive hyper evolved Tyranid warriors the same way a Broodlord is like some sort of super Genestealer.
One or two of those things could be used to provide some more variety for the swarm in respect to both tactical abilities. What it can do. Also it will provide some alternative modeling and painting options so the painting, modeling Warriors doesn't become a chore.
The Hive tyrant may be metal and therefore slightly harder to work with than plastic but it is an amazing model easily one of the best GW have ever produced and having a well constructed and painted one is worth it.
Tyrant guard which are only avaliable as a retinue for Hive tyrants plus the Lictors,Zoanthropes and Raveners are also supposed to be highly specialised breeds of the Warrior genome and would fit in very well in a Warrior themed/sized swarm.
They are also nice to paint and look cool. I especially like Zoanthropes with such big evil brains.
