hey my friend can't decid on an army and he has narrowed it down to 2 choices necrons and marines and was wondering if any one could tell him why he should do necrons

Necrons are as tough as marines, and then some.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.

-solid overall army
-mix of assault and shooting
-easy to paint
-overall, a powerful, well balanced army
-can be boring
-many armies similar
Overall, just tell him that Necrons are a solid, resilent, balanced army with good special rules and easy to paint.

but necrons are really cool
not only for their war abillities but also their background is thrilling

i have noticed that in some areas a lot of people do not like to play against necrons because they feel they are unbalanced.
I personally have only seen 2 battles against necrons and neither time did I see the necron player even break a sweat.
Even people that don't play the game have said that they are unbalanced...
But I have no problem with a challenge and will accept it gladly when it comes my way.
They are called unbalanced simply because of the monolith's sheer resilience and WBB.
Both are clearly balanced out by Phase out and the necrons lack of speed (well, in the majority of the list, destroyers do clearly own).
Problem is, all Necron armies tend to look the same and have very few playing styles, that said they are cool and have lots of cool tricks to play with.
The necron warriors are, pound for pound, some of the best troops for their points cost in the game. As far as cheesy goes, Blood Angels get the same crap on their death company but they dont fall down for the turn. Khorne gets something similar, but its for characters only.
Even the most boring Necron army lists can be some of the the most unrelenting to play against...
