Welcome to Librarium Online!
Aside from warriors im only going to have one other hq, and i want opinions should i get a broodlord or a hive tyrant, both easily fit into my army; a warrior heavy army with minimal troops, and every other category maxed out
from ny experience the Hive Tyrant should be picked over the brood lord tactically wise. Because you can customize your tyrant more to what your army needs. Heavy firepower or flyging assault or whatever you want. The broodlord is utterly effective in CC and get to infiltrate, most of the times he'll inflict some heavy damage... but is highly likely to be killed around turn 3. So if you want a heavy CC HQ that you don't expect to stay alive through the game choose Broodlord for any other type of HQ pick the HT.
But if you want a more fluffy army anything goes ^^.
Go with the Hive tyrant he is more versatile and upgradeable, plus he gets an invulnerable save. A brood lord only has an armor save and must take a retinue, so a broodlord will be more expensive. They both have the same base speed, but the HT can be upgraded t have wings.

If i am playing in a game against marines i'll use the broodlord with a retinue of genestealers but if im playing a meduim to large game i'll use the tyrant.
Laws are like sausages, it is better not to see them being made.

Agreed, playing against marines with a broodloard and retinue can be dirty if you give them Extended carapace. They all get bolter saves (yay!) And it would give you WAY more wounds (granted they'd be easier to get) than a tyrant.Originally Posted by wastedinabattletank
in My experience the Broodlord kinda holds back on what the stealers can do. which sucks I know but i find a brrod of stealers better then the BL with a retinue. I'm currently making a Winged dakka tyrant to do into my army that should kills just about everything except tanks. Also a foot slogging shooty HT should probably have at least 2 Tyrant Guard with him in about evry game as well. You'll be happy u took those extra wounds by the end of the game.
Go with the Hive tyrant.
The Tyrant is much more flexible than the Broodlord in that it can be tailored and modified considerably. A Hive tyrant with wings will always be able to put them to use whether it is an assault monster with scything talons, implant attack, acid maw and so on. It could also fly around with two sets of twinlinked devourers, not my personal favourite for a flying one but I can see the attraction.
A grounded Hive tyrant can provide can provide fire support and with Tyrant guard be a very strong core for your swarm, in addition it can survive more firepower than a Broodlord can or to be more precise losing some Tyrant guard cannot be the game losing disaster like losing a whole brood of Genestealers can be.
The Broodlord is very deadly, when it infiltrates but it won't always do that and will have to trudge all the way across the battlefield when it isn't infiltrating.
When it does this it will lose most if not all of it's genestealers to enemy fire. Broodlords may be good in an assault but they aren't so good that a whole brood of Genestealers need be sacrificed to get them there.
The Genestealers will be happier in the troops section where they can go fleet of claw as much as they like and they can do as much damage as a Broodlord does when it isn't infiltrating.
Basically Hive tyrants can be easily biomorphed to do what you want and then do it, whatever kind of enemy you're fighting, the professional Tyranid commander.
The Broodlord will do what he wants, fine if what you want to do and what he wants to do are the same thing but if you want him to go quickly or shoot he will never do it.
Hive Tyrant all the way!
Its great, its scary and powerful. it will provide your army with acurate firesupport or be a deadly close combat killing machine. It all depends on who your opponents are and which army they play and with what they feild that army with.
