Ive used em once and they actually survied and managed to take out a sqaud of long fangs. a really nasty thing to do is to take 6 of em with devourers (36 strength 3 shots in a turn 'homer simpson slobber thingy here' they absolutley kick arse against swarm armies and orks (cause orks are such crap shots you dun have to worry bout taking casualties to nme fire)
I generally prefer to use them with scything talons and rending claws. Six devourer shots don't sound bad, but only half of them will hit, only half of the hits will wound T3, and in most cases they still allow armour saves. In average, you will kill only a single guardsman with such a devourer salvo, but you lose the charge bonus attack (at better strength, good WS and with rending claws) and one attack in each subsequent assault phase. Usually these shots are not worth it.

Raveners kick ass! Give them rending claws, they'll tear a hole in most battle lines. Just watch for marines and have a huge squad of hormagaunts with them to draw fire. Mmm. Expendable gaunts.
But that if the marine player or anyone for example decides to shoot the raveners instead of the gaunts, i can understand the gaunts if theres nothing else but the raveners that can be shot by the marines, but even if the gaunts are there the marines could still shoot the raveners and therefor the guants would do just as good a job as the raveners in making a hole,(depends which guants they are i guess).
You've got a point but if you had the choice what would you shoot at, 5 or 6 raveners or 30 hormagaunts? I know what I'd do, I've seen how much damage a full squad of hormagaunts can do- that 12" charge goes a long way! (mmm.... 4 skewered terminators....)
i like raveners simply because they look awsome. you could do compare all the stats you want and I'd still feild them because there one of my favorite modles in the game and the make a characterful addition to the army.
