Welcome to Librarium Online!
these two being the CC deep striking units of the tyranid army, im not sure which to take
both are fragile, which is the main point thatmany people bring up, so they are even in that sense, but their other advantages seem to balance out gainst each other so....
bit of help please? which is the more viable choice? or is there situations where one is more effective then the other?
Take a Lictor. I prefer them, they are most useful to deepstrike into a jungle in front of your enemy and make them take priority test.

For Deepstriking definately the Lictor. I normally wouldn't deepstrike Ravs I think placing them on the board straight outa the gates during deployment makes your enimy think about priority and raveners can get into CC very quick. So if they decide to focus or shoot at other things he might have Raveners in his lines by turn 2 and that hurts.
If you're only going to field one, I would definately say Lictor. If for no other reason than the psychological one, (most of my opponents fear the Lictor a lot more than they should). If possible, tho, I would try and field both. With the Lictor, your Ravs are MUCH more likely to land when you want them to and the fact that the Ravs can mount Devs makes them a nice backstabber unit. However, as I said, if you're only going to field one, Lictors.

Both has their good things and negative things.
+ secret location, stealth, free re-roll for reserve, fearless, hit and run. Can charge after deepstriking
- expensive attract a lot of fire so it will rarely earn itself back point wise
+ more weapons possibilities, kind of cheap
- can't charge after deepstriking
I'll say the pick depends on what role it should perform. Never underestimate a ravener with two set of scything talons and a devourer (6 S 3 shots with re-roll to wound and 5 S 4 attacks in cc) for 38 pts per ravener while the lictor can't shoot but have 3 S 6 attacks in cc) and costs 80 pts per lictor.
The Lictors are better at taking ICs and other one-model units, while raveners are better at charging huge units like troop choices and some elite choices because they can kill some of them with their shooting on the charge....
The only reason why any model should deep-strike is if the purpose is to reach a position that is more safely or quickly reached via that method than by walking. Lictors always deep-strike, so there's no issue there. Raveners are another matter, though. I would deep-strike them if I thought that it would allow them to approach the enemy via a flank not reachable from my deployment zone. Even then, it's a risky move, since they can scatter way out into the open. . .
Why do the survivors remain anonymous -- as if cursed -- while the dead are revered? Why do we cling to what we lose while we ignore what we still hold?

Exactly that is why secret location is a plus on lictors... but yes DS isn't very reliable also because you most probably will get the unit in round 3, which sometimes is a bit too late to do major different. Another good thing with lictors is that your opponent somehow tend to avoid cover with his expensive and/or important modelsOriginally Posted by Ostsol
I don't play Nids, but when the guy I play all the time takes them (3) he really shoots the hell out of me the turn they show up... Sorry if that is not of much help.

How do three lictors kill you space marines??? 1 lictor charging a units makes 2 hits makes 1.66 wounds which can be saved which will make 1 charging lictor cause 1.11 wound (calculation is done on a standard space marine) so that is not exactly the best way to use a lictor.Originally Posted by BringerOfStorms
