I have trouble making the decision, wether too choose photon or emp grenades or both. If anyone got any hints/tips on using both the kind grenades then please tell me for i do not know what to do with them.
--for the greater good--
whoa whoa whoa.
your fire warriors are getting close enough to ANYTHING to use grenades? EMP's maybe, but i mean, its not like you should be lacking in tank killing weaponry.
Photons just dont make sense, since all they do is let you work out combat in initiative order... which you will go last in anyways.

I would say for the most part don't take any their a huge waste of points, unless your plannig on having FW specified for tank killing which is also just stupid, Tau have broadside teams they'll take care of the job.

i always take the photon grenades at 1 pt per man they're definitely worth it as they can tie up your FW's in CC for an extra turn giving to time to sort things out.
against guard it halves the number of attacks they get when charging and if your FW's are in cover it actually makes them not half bad at CC
less hate more kittens
Well to be honest...I do believe you should work on your game rather than buying those grenades. If your Tau get into close combat, that usually spells certain doom anyway...avoidence is probably the best answer. The photon grenades are rather good though, especially against anybody who gets big charge bonuses. For the EMP grenades though, they are especially useful against armored companies. However, I rarely use them because I just use my broadsides and crisis suits. If you put your firewarriors in a devilfish, they would be pretty good tank hunters but I now let my newly formed pathfinder team to do all the tank busting. If anything I would give them the grenades. EMP grenades are really good; I once took out a Landraider with my 6 man FW team and the tank was nothing but a smoldering heap after they were done with it. Having the ability is very useful, but don't over do it. It is not very likely that the FW will be able to get into that position unless they are assisted by a devilfish so don't pay for any unnesscary items. Hope this helps
Generally no grenades for the reasons most everyone else has stated. If you absolutely must, then use photons. Even then it would be only for one squad used as bait. Just not a good idea for Tau fire warriors to get upgrades of any kind.
Gue'Vesa can take EMP grenades. If you want a cheap tank-killing unit then that is a possibility. Even though they are slow they will at least draw fire away from your other units. It's the only use I've been able to come up with for the human auxiliaries.
Would that be considered cheese? 6 Gue'Vesa armed with EMP grenades?
No. Cheese would be them in a Devilfish.
I have yet to find a use for Photon grenades. If the enemy is that close to me, then they're either there because I want them to be, or because I've screwed up BAD and am about to be mauled.
Seeing as I only have one Devilfish, I usually mount up a Fire Warrior squad in there and give them the EMPs should the oppotrunity present itself. One game, my opponent managed to kill all of my Broadsides, and then got cocky with his Crusader. My Fire Team popped up around the corner, charged it's flank, and roasted it.
