Welcome to Librarium Online!
i want to field an army that represents the force before the main invasion (it has a name, but ive forgotten it, i think its vanguard?)
anyway, what units would i field in such an army?
i want to field genestealers, broodlord, lictors, raveners, maybe warriors
any of those out of place for this type of fluff army?
any other options i havent considered?
If you look in the pre booklet it has an army list for a vanguard swarm. But just use a normal codex and use things like, genestealers, lictors, the death leaper, raveners etc. warriors are a little out of place if you feild to many of them... but mostly not.Originally Posted by Dark_exCal

Also if you want a SC for your vangaurd you could put in the Red Terror. He is a nice figure with some nice abilities IMO altough he does cost $30.
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.

The Medusa V player's guide (which can be downloaded in pdf format from Game's Workship) contains a variant army list to represent the very beginning of an invasion. However considering the units you want to field and the fluff it might not be what you’re looking for. I’m also in the process of putting together a vanguard army and the list didn’t interest me since you can’t field many genestealers if you also want to field lictors.
Still, I’d suggest you check it out.
yeh ive taken a look at that, and i had the same problem i guess, cant field enough genestealers, can field a max of 3, cept i want to hold onto lictors as well
ive sort of used that as an example for units i want to field, but im making a standard army, not one to be used in the weekend before Medusa V, so thats ok
ill probably be leaving out the warriors, since they are mentioned as a vital part of a main invading force
heh this will be interesting, because this will probably be the first time ill have to roll leadership, since im usually always under synapse (got lots of practice with synapse coverage by making a swarm with 2 zoans and all gaunts, lost horribly, but i got something out of it, so s'all good)

You may want to consider some fast attack for your vanguard. Spore mines and gargoyles. Especially sporemines are mentioned as part of the very early stages of invasion. But are you thinking of a preinvasion kind of genestealerinfestation list or on some of the guys who make planetfall as the very first as soon as the hivefleet pops out of the warp.
That is if you are not fellowing the armylist for the medusa5 Vanguard swarm, but are making on ordinary vanguard themed army.

MedusaV- a world will be eaten! hrrmp
The Vanguard Fleet
Warp-capable scout-drones range ahead of the main fleet searching for suitable planets. Upon discovery they seed the world with vanguard organisms such as Genestealers, Lictors, Warriors and various Gaunt species. Raveners are a Warriors subspecies. Gargoyles are a Gaunt species. Rippers are the larval forms of many species. Should the world prove fruitful they will summon the Hive Fleet.
i would simply stay away from the gaunt genus so thats tyrants, warriors, gaunts and rippers, gargoyles
"take my love, take my land, take me to where i cannot stand, i don't care i'm still free you can't take the sky from meee" ;- firefly
"i'm gonna grant you your greatest wish i'm gonna show you a world without sin" ;- serentiy
"I am a leaf on the wind, watch how i soar" ;- serenity
rippers are out...
they are like the garbage bags, they eat everything then jump into a digestion pool, so they pop up after an invasion has been completed, or near completion
Page 41 of the 3rd ed. codex discribes how a planet is selected and subdued. On page 46 it states that rippers are the larval form of many species. There is probably some mechanism that either makes them pupate or feed.Originally Posted by Dark_exCal
