Welcome to Librarium Online!
I just got the starter set for 40k and have been playing with the eldar. Only problem is they always get slaughtered by the marines. What can I do tactics wise, or what could I add to the army to make it more effective against the marines? (Army right now is just 20 warriors)
I also had a question about weapons: what are the weapons that come with the army in the box set. I know they're mainly splinter rifles, but are the bigger ones shredders or lascannons or what?
Well first off you need a few nifty gadgets to beat space marines. I suggest purchasing the dark eldar codex as much of the stuff from the original 200+ page codex as everything is changed and there are more units and things like that. Believe it or not, the dark eldar have more points on their side than the space marines do.
The bigger guns are spinter cannons Copyrighted material removed
i would get a lord and some more warriors to start, i found when i first started 1 lord and 4 ten man squads of warriors was actually quite good at taking on space marines
To beat SM you need to buy some incubi, riding in a raider, supported by some warrior squads armed to their teeth. To get some moving firepower against foes with less armour I suggest a unit of scourges armed with 4 splinter cannons (this unit will slaughter anything in their way! ) A good backbone to the force is the talos (scares the hell out of the enemy too!. Good hunting!
i would say just go with an HQ on a raider with 4 or 5 incubi, and then two warrior squads with ten men each (two dark lances in each squad). That puts you up to a little under 500 points, and its enough to beat just about any army out there!
For smaller point games, I don't think that incubi justify their points cost. Much better is to use a single 9-girl wych squad with your tooled-up lord (shadow field, agonizer and combat drugs) in a raider, supported by two "sniper" squads (10 man warrior squads w/ 2 Dark Lances and 2 blasters each). I've had great success with this combo, as well as with a similar "gunboat" army: same thing except two Raider squads with splinter cannon and blasters (against smurfs) or shredders (against low-toughness opponents).
In any case, you need to get Raiders. It is, bar none, the best transport value in the game, with the sole weakness of being easy to kill. That makes less and less difference the more of them you have on the board. On top of that, with the Raider, you'll still be able to assault under the trial rules and the upcomming 4th edition, while everyone else will be stuck in the mud.
well, i think trucks come in a easy second for that, raiders are reeeaaaly awesome!
love playin 'gainst them though, it seems every de player uses them slightly diferently, thets why i like playin gainst de, all the armies are diff. and varied.
it mainly depends on who you're fighting. If you're going after necrons in a low points game, or space marines (armies with good armor and small numbers), then incubi will wreack havoc on your enemy! dont use more than 4 though. 2 will normally suffice in a very small game. I love power weapons though, so i use 4
