This thing just goes beyond me
1) I have a commander with 2 shield drones. He gets git by 20 lasgun hits. How do I do it? 2 hits for drones and then 18 for the commander, or 2 for drones, 1 for commander, 2 for drones (if theyre still alive), 1 for commander etc?
2) Same situation, but there's a stealth squad of 6. So 2 on the shields, 6 on the stealths, 2 on the shields... etc. Or 2 on the shields, 18 on the stealths?
3) Situation as in 2), but the hits are ap 3. How many can I attempt to save on the invulnerable save of the drones?
4) Where does one find some nice clear rules that explain this...?

Since they are the same toughness and armor save you allocate them around one by one. Like this:
First lasgun hit - Shield Drone #1
Second Lasgun hit - Shield Drone #2
Third Lasgun hit - Commander
4th lasgun hit - Shield Drone #1
5th lasgun hit - Shield Drone #2
6th lasgun hit - Commander
And so on and so forth until they have all been allocated. It would end up 7 hits on each shield drone, and 6 on the commander since you can choose which to start allocating with. This is why they're meant for big guns. Lascannon hits squad, allocate it to a drone.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Cant we just roll all 20 lascannon invuln saves altogether? then allocate the wounds after.. like, putting the first 2 deaths on the 2 drones then work out the other 18 wounds if they are not saved too?
In third edition you could do that, but in fourth edition you have to allocated all wounds as evenly as possible before taking them.Originally Posted by nekochen

Because they have the same armor save, take all the saves simultaniously. Remove whichever models you choose.Originally Posted by YoohrandSame as above. hang on a sec.why would you take the saves on the stealth suits first rather than on the sheild drones. they have the same armour and toughness, so surely you can alocate a save to each sheild drone, then one to each stealth, then one to each sheild ect.1 Save for each Stealth Suit (6 saves), first, then 1 for each Shield Drone (2 saves), and then it is repeated.
Another question arises: do I allocate the hits, or the 'wounding' hits (so after the strenght/toughness roll)?
Also: Do I allocate every hit before starting to roll for saves (ie. 2 for drones, 1 for cmdr all the time untill I've allocated em all and then I throw all the dice)? Or do I allocate one hit at each target in the squad, make the rolls, and then allocate again, taking into consideration that some of the models have been killed with the previously allocated hits (ie. first 2 hits for drones 1 for cmdr, roll, one drone dies, so next 1 hit for drone, 1 for cmdr, the last drone dies, then 15 hits for cmdr)?
Ugh.. so confusing, it's a quantum science to me! j/k
3rd edition.. 4th edition.. so much changes..
it's easier now the shield drones have x toughness. see what hits, see what wounds, divide them up, roll armour saves.

there is a catch here , say you have a HQ suit unit with 3 suits and 2 drones. if i HIT that unit 5 times with say.. 5 lascannons which is enough to "completely hit the unit" your opponent can make you take a save against any model he choses, which will be the commander now its AP2 and str 9 . so if you fail your inv SV its bye bye commander.
its pretty cheesey but thats why your suits have the ability to move and shoot.
