I'm a Tyranid player at heart, but am thinking of starting two other armies, one is an IG Armored Company (I do love tanks), and the other is Orks. I have some questions though.
When is the next ork codex coming out? I'm thinking of buying a HQ and one or two battleforces when they drop to 90 bucks (or less on ebay). Is that a good plan? I would hate to buy the codex and then have a new one come out in another week.
So, let me know what you think.
As we get closer to the next codex comming out which ive heard from the red shirts won't be till next year or later. The price will drop on the old codex which makes it kind of relevant. As a mater of fact as you can see in my signature ive had several armys and have several, including the ones you mentioned. I always come back to my Kult of SPEEEEEEEEEED. I choose them for tournaments also. Orks are Cool even when U lose.
3K Highest Elves
2K Saim-Hann Eldar
4K Pts Freaky Fast ORCS
5K Hive Fleet Devourer
2.5K Bretonnian Knights
3K Tomb Kings
Forget the battleforces, unless you're willing to undertake the extensive conversion work needed to make the Ork vehicles look decent. Instead, buy boxes of boyz. Lots of boyz. An Ork army needs a lot of boyz. And most troop types can be made/converted from them. You can never go wrong buying another box of boyz.
Hi. I'm starting orks as well. Expect to see me in this part of the forum soon.
I'm basically gettign a lot of slugga boyz with some kans. Basically a huge army of swarms of orks with some kans waist deep in them. Maybe some orks to get the orks in combat to set up a big screen until everything else arrives.
BTW when can I expect the new codex to be released?
I would expect the new codex sometime next year guys. Seemingly its eldar next, then Dark Angels, then Orks................

expect the new codex in abut 12 to 15 months time.
You have more than enough time to make a good sized ork army, as for the BF, don't take it unless you want to play evilsunz or speedfreeks.
That bad huh? Well, I do plan on playing a blood axe theme. I'll try and get the codex today and see how it goes from there.
The battleforce is not a great deal, in my opinion. The fact that the bulk of it is fast attack choices makes it only of any use to a speed freak, and even for most speed freaks, it isn't that great because a lot of players don't like using warbikes, which there are 5 of and comprise 75$ value.
If going for a 'footslogging' horde of orks, it is recommend you buy a couple of boxes of ork boys and build them up to slugga boys, and either some buggies/wartrukks if you want your support units to be fast, or killa kans/looted tank(s) if you want your support units to be powerful. I don't recommend trying to encompass too many things with a footsloggin' horde, try to keep it simple and stick with a solid horde of slugga boys, a unit of grots (otherwise known as gretchin) to provide the much needed protection to the infantry, and some of the above listed support units. Oh, and the required warboss :w00t:. This should give you a solid, and good 'building block' of a starter army.
If going for the also popular speed freaks army, I recommend buying a couple wartrukks, a few warbuggies, a looted tank, and a box or two of slugga boys. Speed freaks are little more complex with their army lists, as they often run many smaller/cheap vehicles or koptas, but at smaller point lists they can keep it simple. I definitely DON'T recommend warbikes. Some people love them, many hate them. They just don't seem worth it my opinion, but if you really must use them than fly with it.
I hope I helped.
