Anyone had any luck with a footsloggin Ork force?
As you may know I have started a Ork army and was of a mind to do Freeks. Anyhow I love me a Killa Kan and think that a army with 9 of em would be fun in a big way. I play for fun and have not been to a tourney in years but at the same time like to win sometimes.
So my question is could a hybrid footslogger force do well? The things that I really want to have are the 9 Kans, 16 to 20 Vulcha Stormboyz, 3 Rokkit buggie/tracks, Burna Boy mobs with KFF to support the Kans, Warboss with cheap retinue in trukk, Painboss with Cyborks in Trukk and umm some other stuff.
So pretty much I want Freeks but with Kans!

What you have stumbled upon here is the infamous 9-kan rumble, probably the closest strategy orks have to beeing cheesy. The way to use them is with the standard 9 kans, and then burna boyz or a few big meks with tools and oilers running behind them to keep them loaded. Then, use them to shield some huge mobs of boyz: Your opponent will find it much harder to shoot them as they walk up the field behind your walking wall. Beware, though: This strategy will not make you any friends. At all.
If you don't want to screen boyz behind your kanz, then they probably won't be that effective. They are, after all, only armed with a single gun, which isn't very scary and, although they can be beasts in CC against low powered units, if you get them into combat with anything S5 or above then generally speaking it'd be a waste of points. (Including powerfists!) One or two are useful as, well, heavy support, but with 9 you want to be doing something kunning with them to justify such a large spending of points.
If you do want to screen boyz, then you'll have to drop the stormboyz: They are prohibitively expensive and get picked off very easily. Warbuggies are always nice in a standard force, and a warboss retinue... well, with them you are taking a big risk, depending on how high points you are playing. That's a point- how high points are you playing?
I play 1850 unless it is a 4 person game then 1500 per person 2 vs 2.
I am trying to avoid having the huge mobs though, I know they would work well but I play for fun so do not look forward to pushing 150 models around the table heh.
How do they shield the boyz though cant my opponent just make a leadership test to shoot boyz?
I also do not understand how AV 11, BS 2 one weapon walkers can be cheesy? I dont doubt you just I cant figure out how it is so?
What about the groups of Kans are they a squadron? If one is Imobilized do I got to wait for it with the others or abandon it or can it roll solo? Or could it be left behind and when it gets fixed you would have to regain coherence with its parent unit?
If you are using a footslogger army, make sure there is lots of terrain to hide behind as you advance! Your troops can make good use of it and it restricts the fire and movement of enemy vehicles, who will tend to try to keep their distance and hose you. A jungle type terrain is a good one to fight in, or a ruined cityscape with lots of rubble.
The kan wall isn't that cheesy, especially against high strength, rapid firing weapons. A devastator squad armed with heavy bolters or even Tau infantry with pulse weapons can brew them up pretty quickly. :x
Sticking a few bikes in front will also give any troops/kans behind them a cover save from the exhaust smoke.
A tactic that I have used a few times ( though it only tends to work once against the same player!) is to put all you Kans on one side, with lots of banners, spikes and horns etc and use them as a big s**t magnet. Hopefully, your opponent will concentrate all his fire at the scary mob of kans, allowing the quiet, sneaky, inoffensive mobs of boys to tiptoe up to his army. :shifty:
Sometimes when I want to use a footsloggin force I use 6 kans and a basilisk to take out some of the bigger annoyances that will kill the kan fast. Also in the same army i have one or two trukk boy squads and some bikes (bikes screen the boyz the kan can aswell but the bikes work better) Some times I throw in some burna or tankbusta boyz instead of a regualr slugga mob to keep my enemy on there toes.
I will post the list if you want to see it. I dont normaly lose using it
Heck Yes! (Napolean Dynamite Quote) Yes I would love to see this list, still very up in the air as to what kinda Ork army I want to run with. Freeks or Regular list.
