I decided to create an eldar army seeing as im a very big fan of BFG (battlefleet gothic) and me and the people at my gaming club thought it would be interesting if we actually fought out the boarding actions in relation to boarding values.
Also seeing as we are playing a campaign set up like this:
Forces of good:
4x imperial players
1X eldar player
2x space marine players
Forces of evil
3x chaos players
3x necron players
1 ork player
we thought we would also fight over planets, and planetary features after the space battles.
So, anyway i went to GW with a wad of cash, went in and was still not really sure what to get. I came out with 2x Guardian boxes/Storm guardians/Heavy weapons platforms/A warlock and im told this can qualify as a basic army for 40k in 40m and should be enough troops for boarding.
Can you please fill me in on what other units i should add to my army if i want to have a viable 40k army, without breaking my bank balance as GW does invariably
(note: 40k in 40m (minutes) is what they call it in the uk. just noticed u guys calling it 40k in a flash)
I always like to field some striking scorpoins and a vyper.Aliatoc (a ranger craftworld) are also very effective in 40m rules thanks to the disruption table and lack of tanks in the opposing force.Their rules are detialed in codex craftworld eldar as are the rules for four other craftworlds.
do u intend to to play a vanilla army? if yur not sure i highly auggest u buy the craftworld eldar codex, read the different rules for the craftworlds and see which one appeals to yu. i read about ulthwe and never looked back.
if yur doing vanilla then i think the next move should be a wraithlord. there is not really going to be any battle, including 40k in 40m, that he wont be needed. cmon, t8 and str 10 + move and fire heavy wep. for 120 (roughly)
also, since yur fighting high amounts of necrons and choas, i HIGHLy suggest some howling banshees. their power weapons are great for slicing and dicing those enemies! possibly using the storm guarfdians as back up and the defenders and heavy weapons as a moving, firing meat shield. thats what my defenders are their for and they ahve never let me down.
just remember this..eldar are very specialized. each squad has a specifica role on the battle field. it excells at doing it roll better then anyone, but cannot reelly go outside its limits.
<insert witty remark here>
I saw ulthwe and considered the army from the picture, just because i think the colour scheme is one of the better ones. The alaitoc craftworld fits the scheme of my fleet a little more. Ulthwe look to be one of the more well rounded craftworlds anyway, so this is probably what i will go for.
What didnt occur to me is how long the ***** models would take me to put together geese! i built a guardian, considered how much filing and clipping and glueing and basing id already done, and thought, oh crud................................. this gonna take me forever to get them all done, lol.
For now, i will get them made (this is gonna take me ages). play them in basecoat at wednesdays gaming club and decide then. I only like to paint from a black basecoat out of habit.
I would probably add a falcon to the army, however seeing how i no longer have an airbrush, i would not even like to try and build some shitty looking thing.
I tend to build an army for character rather than function. As i run an eldar pirate fleet there is no real colour scheme i have to conspire to, however i will most likely do so anyway for 40k purpouses.
